What are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells, also called dental laminates, that are used to cover unsightly teeth and give patients attractive smiles. They are easy to place and can quickly improve the smile of patients with dental cracks and stains, and for patients who have gaps between their teeth.

What is the difference between Veneers and Dental Crowns?

Veneers cover only the front portion of teeth. Crowns cover or replace the entire tooth. Crowns are therefore thicker than veneers. A major portion of the tooth needs to be reduced before placing a crown while only a small portion of the tooth needs to be reduced before placing a veneer. A crown is used for covering damaged teeth and is also placed over a dental implant. A veneer is only used for cosmetic purposes.

What are the best types of Veneers?

The best type of veneer depends on the needs of each individual patient. Some veneers can be easily placed without much tooth preparation. Some veneers are suitable for severely damaged teeth. Some veneers can be easily made in the clinic and patients do not have to wait long for their placement. Some veneers are cheaper than others and are suitable for patients looking for a low cost option.  Your dentist should discuss the options with you so you can make the best choice.

How long before you can eat after getting Veneers?

Dentists recommend that patients eat only soft foods after veneers are placed, and for the first few days, until they get used to them. Veneers are normally bonded firmly to teeth and patients can eat any type of food.

What are Veneers made from?

Veneers are made from ceramic, composite resins or zirconium.

It was painless and fastPamela, US, 09 06 22

I was in Ireland recently visiting family and had a dental emergency when one of my caps cracked and fell out. Dr. Tom fit me in that evening and in 20 minutes had put two pins in my mouth and restored the cap. It was painless and fast. I would highly recommend this dental office and Dr. Tom. BTW I am home in the United States and the cap is still holding!

Like everyone else, we are aware of the current financial climate. Patients covered by PRSI are entitled to a free examination every year, and we encourage people. There is a tax refund of 20% available for advanced dental treatments, including gum treatment visits to the hygienist, which we will organise for you. Finally, we can offer further discounts on multiple treatments as well as flexible payment options for advanced work. Our practice is equipped with the latest, state of the art dental technology available. Our digitalised x-ray system significantly reduces our patients' exposure to radiation; and along with our OPG machine, which provides a full-mouth, comprehensive x-ray, we are able to diagnose patients more quickly and accurately than ever before. Of course, disease prevention is extremely important to us, and we place an emphasis on good oral hygiene and dietary habits to help stop tooth decay before it becomes a problem. Your oral health is our top priority, and so we make sure to perform an oral cancer screening on all of our patients during every exam. Gum health and proper care should be a real priority for everyone, and dental hygienist Paula Cavanagh looks after our patients with care and expertise. It's amazing how many people refuse to smile or cover their mouths in photos. Cosmetic dental treatment is something people are becoming more and more interested in.
