Fillings are selected as a treatment method when tooth morphology has been altered, mainly due to tooth decay, and needs to be restored.   The materials used to seal a tooth cavity are either resin or porcelain.   Fillings can be direct (after adequately preparing the tooth, the dentist, at one appointment, replaces the missing parts of the tooth morphology with resin) or indirect (the missing part of the tooth will be fabricated by a dental laboratory based on an impression taken by the dentist and, during a second appointment, the dentist will cement the filling into place).   The material used in indirect fillings can be resin, composite resin, porcelain, gold, etc. In direct fillings, resin or amalgam can be used.

A crown (or cap) is an artificial tooth that restores the morphology of a natural tooth that has been greatly damaged.   Crowns can be PFM (Porcelain Fused to Metal), zirconia and porcelain, gold-platinum and porcelain, or all-ceramic (only porcelain) crowns.

Veneers are ultra-thin (average thickness 1mm) shells of a ceramic material (porcelain) that are bonded to the front part of the patient’s teeth, in order to fix aesthetic imperfections, as far as shape, colour or occlusion problems are concerned.   The most common imperfections that can be corrected using veneers include:   Slightly crooked teeth Discolored teeth Chipped teeth Gaps between teeth Uneven teeth   The three main types of veneers are: lithium disilicate (emax), non-prep and feldspathic porcelain veneers.
