What is Fat Transfer?

Fat transfer is a surgical procedure that transplants fat taken from the patient’s body to areas of the face and body in order to restore the volume lost because of the process of aging. The procedure is also called fat grafting or fat injection. Typically fat is transferred to the breasts, the buttocks, hands and facial features including the lips, chin and cheeks. Fat transfers are also performed to treat acne scarring.

How is Fat Transfer done?

Fat is removed from one area of the body by the surgeon using liposuction. The fat is purified and turned into liquid form. It is then injected into another part of the body to give more volume. The time taken for the procedure depends on the part of the body from which the fat is harvested, the processing of the fat and the part of the body or face where the fat is transferred to. A fat transfer procedure to the buttocks, for example, may take five to eight hours.

Is Fat Transfer painful?

Fat transfer procedures are performed under general anaesthesia, local anaesthesia or intravenous sedation, depending on the needs of each individual patient. Patients will not feel pain during the procedure.

How long does it take to recover from Fat Transfer?

Recovery from fat transfer depends on the part of the body to which fat is transferred. The recovery time for patients choosing a fat transfer procedure to their buttocks may be about four to six weeks.

When can I travel by air after Fat Transfer?

Patients can travel by air 10 days after their fat transfer procedure.

What post-operative care should I take after Fat Transfer?

Patients should rest for a few days after a fat transfer procedure. They should take all prescribed medications correctly and avoid smoking or drinking alcohol. Patients should avoid strenuous activities and lifting heavy objects for at least a month after the procedure. They should, however start walking as soon as possible to decrease swelling. They should also wear the prescribed compression garments correctly.

Rating from 6 Reviews Very through explanation and consultation so farJoanne, Whitchurch Shropshire, 23 Aug 15

Once I got a reply I was offered an appointment very quickly. I wanted a mole removing. Unfortunately a piece of equipment pertinent to me under going the treatment wasn't working which has delayed my completion. I was assured that the problem would be dealt with as a matter of urgency and I would be contacted quickly to go ahead. That was 3 working days ago. The delay could well be out of the control of the clinic. I found everyone I met to be very attentive. I have been given a very thorough explanation and consultation so far. The staff were welcoming and put me at ease. The equipment and environment was very modern, clean and professional. The building is on a business park which would not be easily accessible if you didn't have a car.

I would certainly recommend.Sheila, UK, 10 Jan 17

Dr. Thomas Chapman - Spire South Bank Hospital

0203 514 1518 ext: 21907 139 Bath Rd, Worcester, WR5 3YB
Mr Thomas Chapman can offer a range of cosmetic procedures as well as hand surgery, skin cancer treatment, sarcoma treatment, diagnosis and treatment of lumps, benign skin conditions and mole assessment. I have a friendly informal and non-judgemental approach, you can discuss your concerns in a relaxed environment with no need for embarrassment. I believe in the best continuity of care, and will support you through the decision making process before surgery and in the postoperative period. Unlike many clinics I do not rely on other surgeons or nurses to performs parts of the procedure or postoperative care. Once you have been a patient of mine I never charge for a postoperative appointment and have an open access policy. This means you can book back in to see me anytime, even years later. In my experience, patients find this reassuring and know they are in good hands. I have extensive training in cosmetic surgery, having completed a number of competitive aesthetic fellowships in London, Italy and the USA, supported by a scholarship from the British association of plastic surgeons, of which I am a full member, and an award from the royal college of surgeons, of whom im a specialist fellow (FRCSPlast). Due to this broad experience I can advise on the best treatment for you depending on your circumstances and needs, rather than just what is available. Unfortunately, some clinics will only offer the one treatment they are trained to do, rather than what is best for the patient. M

The clinic was clean, tidy and very friendlyOlga, UK, 05 Feb 13

I first went to see Mr Veri at Liverpool in May 2012. The clinic was clean, tidy and very friendly. The only down side is that Mr Veri's English isnt great but Marie was there to translate. He seemed to understand my upset after feeding my son for a long period of time and knew exactly in what way I wanted to improve my breasts. When I left the clinic, I knew the type, size and style of implant that I was going to have and understood the reasons why it was most suitable. I finally had my op in December 12. I saw Mr Veri first thing in the morning and he really helped to steady my nerves. The hospital was clean and I felt that all my needs were taken care of. I left the clinic happy and started my recovery. My first post op appointment was at my own GPs as I live a good distance away. The nurse could not believe how neat and tidy my stitches were and how very little bruising I had. She said she had never seen such a good job! I am now 7 weeks post op and am more than delighted with the results! They are better than I could ever have dreamed of! I suffered very little pain and no complications. I know that I definitly chose the right surgen! Thanks for my fab new boobs!
