Treatment: Total Hip Arthroplasty, and post-op rehab. I am no stranger to ‘Health Tourism’, and contacted several clinics in other countries for the same operation – total hip replacement on one side. I contacted KCM Clinic after reading reviews and details on ‘What Clinic’ website. From that point on, I was most impressed with the speed, detailed information and costs sent by KCM, such that I decided to go ahead and have my hip replaced by them in preference to others. The UK NHS was a total non-starting failure. Every single aspect of the visit from arrival in Wroclaw to homeward journey was almost ‘micro-managed’ with superb efficiency. Transport from/to the airport, hotel arrangements, transport to/from the clinic nearby, pre-surgery assessments, surgery and hospital clinic stay, daily physiotherapy afterwards, all happened extremely smoothly. Yes, there was quite a bit of ‘waiting around’ at times during pre-op assessment, some of it caused by my own request for further cardiology assessment. The actual hip replacement operation occurred as arranged and was very straightforward. The level of care from clinic staff was exceptionally high, the coordinator was extremely helpful and accommodating at all times, the surgeon attended every day after the operation to check on progress and even changed the dressing himself, and the rehab. The physiotherapist always gave superb individual attention to maximise post-operative mobility. A very detailed discharge pack was handed to me when leaving the clinic, including CDs of all X-rays and diagnostic images, ready to pass on to the GP when returning to UK (in Polish, though – but I’m sure it can be well understood in medical circles). Can I recommend them? Without reservation! What about language? Polish is spoken throughout, but nearly everyone has a good command of English or German so communication was never an issue. I was continually impressed by the clinic, and they showed what true ‘health care’ is all about. All-in-all it has been the most positive experience, well beyond my expectations, and one that I will repeat soon for the other side! Thank you so much, KCM.

The gastric band which is sometimes also called a lap band is ideal for patients with a BMI over 30. It is a long term weight loss solution for those who are chronically overweight or obese. The gastric band procedure is conducted via keyhole surgery, which uses several small incisions rather than one long one. The procedure takes about an hour and will require patients to stay overnight in the hospital. Recovery from gastric band surgery is about two weeks. The gastric band is a hollow ring that surgeons wrap around the stomach. It is filled with fluid which tightens the ring and reduces the capacity of the stomach. It also slows the rate at which food can be digested. The gastric band can be adjusted throughout the lifetime of the patient to accommodate more or less food as the patient and surgeon see fit. Because of the customisability of the gastric band, it is considered to be one of the best weight loss methods as long term solution.

It also has the most drastic results, patients can loose as much as 80% of their excess weight. The gastric bypass does holds more health risks than the other procedures. Those with medical disorders that could make surgery risky, may not qualify for the gastric bypass. Patients who receive the surgery must take dietary supplements for the rest of their life.
