Maxine Shearer works as an independent Physiotherapist for Kids Physio, working on Fridays and alternate Saturdays during school terms and 5 days per week in the school holidays (Monday to Friday) Maxine sees children within a 20-mile radius of Hitchin, Hertfordshire.
Maxine graduated as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1977 from the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital School of Physiotherapy, Birmingham. She worked for the NHS in Cheltenham, Cardiff, Reading and Luton, before accepting a post in special education.
As well as seeing children for private physiotherapy, Maxine is the Physical Disability Adviser for Luton Education Authority.
Maxine is a Bobath Trained Therapist, having attended the eight-week Bobath Course in 1983, refresher courses and several practical Bobath workshops.
Maxine has a special interest in Aquatic Therapy and has been on many hydrotherapy courses and practical workshops including pool rescue training.
Maxine has a great deal of experience in the physiotherapy management of children with complex needs and has also attended many courses in this field, including 24-hour postural care and hip problems.
Maxine is qualified to lead Rebound Therapy sessions for children with a range of physical impairment. The benefits of rebound therapy include improved balance, coordination, spatial awareness and normalising muscle tone. It can also provide an enjoyable cardiovascular workout.
Maxine has worked with many children using specialist Bikes and Trikes, and can work with parents to find the most appropriate bike, trike and accessories.
