What is Egg Donation?

Egg donation is the term used when one woman donates her eggs, for medical research, or to be implanted in another woman as part of an assisted reproduction procedure. The egg donor may be related or unrelated to the recipient. Once the donor has agreed to donate eggs, the eggs are retrieved from her ovaries through an ultrasound assisted surgical procedure. Egg donation supports IVF assisted reproductive procedures, especially for women whose eggs are of poor quality or for women who are too old to conceive.

How long does the Egg Donation procedure take?

While the actual egg retrieval process takes just a few minutes, the administrative and screening procedures for egg donation could take about a month. The procedure is performed under conscious sedation or mild anaesthesia.

What is the recovery time after Egg Donation?

The recovery time after egg donation is usually one month. The donor’s response to the post-ovarian stimulation medications will determine whether she can travel after the eggs are retrieved. This depends on each individual donor. The donor should travel only after the doctor certifies that she is fit to travel. It is important that the donor takes the prescribed post-operative medications correctly. The donor should not indulge in strenuous physical activity or sexual intercourse for a few days after egg donation.

After several failures in Toronto, my husband and I arrived in Prague in 2017 after our amazing consultation with Dr Mrazek over Skype. We decided to go through our last IVF in Prague convinced that we would only come back with the memory of a nice vacation and instead expect a child! The clinic followed us step by step before leaving, during our stay in Prague and afterwards. Our contact was with Michaela who I will never thanks her enough for the trust and strength she gave me by treating me as a family member. Not to mention she goes beyond her duties and her shift to help you and make you feel comfortable and always happy to answer all your questions. We were lucky to have one healthy embryo. We transferred it on day 3 and finally, our miracle baby girl has arrived with the help of an amazing team Dr. Mrazek and Dr Thomas. I found a place in Gynem where they still care about the success of their work and at affordable prices! The staff is prepared and considerate. Thank you! Prague is also beautiful! What a great experience with Praga Medica After initial testing we knew we were not able to conceive, so we decided to go for Donor Egg treatment. After frustrating experiences with donor banks in the US, we decided to reach out to Praga Medica for help. After the initial consultation and in-person interview with the doctor we felt at ease and reassured that this was the right place to convene for us. The staff made the process so easy and transparent. Everything was planned out for us. The clinic was lovely with friendly staff, everyone was kind and helpful. All our questions were answered. We conceived with twins that are due in summer. We especially want to thank Tereza, Pavla and Dr Smrcina.
