What is Egg Donation?

Egg donation is the term used when one woman donates her eggs, for medical research, or to be implanted in another woman as part of an assisted reproduction procedure. The egg donor may be related or unrelated to the recipient. Once the donor has agreed to donate eggs, the eggs are retrieved from her ovaries through an ultrasound assisted surgical procedure. Egg donation supports IVF assisted reproductive procedures, especially for women whose eggs are of poor quality or for women who are too old to conceive.

The recovery time after egg donation is usually one month. The donor’s response to the post-ovarian stimulation medications will determine whether she can travel after the eggs are retrieved. It is important that the donor takes the prescribed post-operative medications correctly. The donor should not indulge in strenuous physical activity or sexual intercourse for a few days after egg donation.

She is a true asset to the clinic. Thank you Hana x The clinic is perfect I felt I was being cared for throughout my donor embryo transfer. Unfortunately, my transfer failed on this occasion. Hana was In contact with me to tell me what to do, and what to expect, even though it was Christmas and New Year she was quick to answer my messages. Egg donation IVF is the treatment option for patients with female infertility factor. The female’s egg production could be insufficient, egg quality may be poor or the age of the patient does not allow her to conceive with her own eggs. This option is also explored when the female is already in menopause and unable to produce eggs. A healthy egg donor is chosen and her eggs are used to fertilize with the male’s sperm.  An egg donor needs to meet specific criteria. The acceptable age range for a donor is between 21 and 29 years. In order to ensure that a donor is physically, genetically and psychologically healthy for the donation, she has to undergo a number of tests.
