Cataract Treatment

A cataract is a clouding of the eyes lens and normally occurs as part of the ageing process.Cataract surgery is the removal of the natural lens of the eye (also called " crystalline lens")  that has developed an opacification, which is referred to as a cataract.

Cataract surgery is generally performed by an ophthalmologist  (eye surgeon) in an ambulatory (rather than inpatient) setting, in a surgical center or hospital, using

local anesthesia (either topical, peribulbar, or retrobulbar), usually causing little or no discomfort to the patient.Symptoms depend on the type and stage of cataract .Cataract is devoloped normally the result of geing process . However, they can be caused by exposure to prolom\nged ultraviolet radiation ,
diabetes mellitus, injury to the eye, inflammation within the eye.Cataract can be prevented by wearing ultraviolet protective sunglasses and consumption of fruit delays the onset of cataract. The conditon usually effects both eyes, but almost always one eye affected earlier than other.

When a cataract is sufficiently devoloped to be removed by surgery, the most effective and established treatment is Phacoemulsificayion.Phacoemulsificayion is painless with eye drop anaesthesia.injection is not given as a routine .Touch sensation may be felt by few. There is no swelling and redness of eyes with clear corneal incision.

Eye Drops

It is veryimportant that you regularly consult eye specialist and get your eyes examinedto avoid any eye problems.Following are some tips for better care of your eye :

*) Dont stare at your computer screen too long

Try to take a break from staring at your computer screen:its important to give your eyes a break to prevent headaches, blurry visionand dry eye. Also, try to keep your monitor dust and fingerprint free as bothcan reduce clarity and cause eye strain.

*) Sit 50-60 cm away from your screen

Make sure you sit about 50-60 cm away from your computerscreen and that there is no light reflecting off the monitor.

*) Take a break

If working for long periods in front of a monitor, try andtake a break every 20 minutes to half an hour.

* ) Drink plenty of water

Try and drink lots of water - as well as being great foryour skin it can improve the moisture balance in your eyes, especially in airconditioned offices.

*) Dont rub your eyes

If you have something in your eye, dont rub it. The best thingto do is lift the upper eyelid outward and gently pull it down to cover thelower lashes causing tears to wash the object out of your eye. Lens wearersshould take them out and clean them thoroughly.

*) Get some fresh air

Working in an air conditioned office or building can dry outyour eyes even if you dont wear contact lenses, making them uncomfortable anditchy but a little fresh air will help.Contact us or for more details visit.
