What is Acne?

Acne is the appearance of blemishes on the skin of patients caused by oily secretions of the skin’s sebaceous glands. The oil secreted blocks the pores of the skin causing acne.

Acne is treated by using topical medications, prescription tablets, laser assisted acne treatments and treatments using broadband light.

Are Acne Treatments painful?

Laser assisted acne treatments and broadband light assisted acne treatments are performed after applying numbing creams or administering local anaesthesia. Patients should not feel pain during the procedure.

When can I travel by air after Acne Treatments?

Patients can travel by air immediately after laser or broadband light assisted acne treatments. If they feel any discomfort they can fly after they feel better.

How long does recovery take after having Acne Treatments?

Recovery after laser or broadband light assisted acne treatments takes from three days to a week.

What after care is required after Acne Treatments?

Patients should take any prescribed medications correctly. They should use cold packs to bring down any swelling after laser or broadband light assisted acne treatments, for at least two days. They should avoid touching or scratching the treated area. They should avoid direct sunlight and use a strong sunblock after laser and broadband light assisted acne treatments for at least a month.  Patients should drink plenty of water to help their skin recover.

Helen Ryan is a fantastic person who truly listens to people. When no doctor would believe that my child's condition was deeper than just eczema she has been able to use her talent and skills to put my daughter on the right track for recovery. Beyond helping my child to have a proper quality of sleep for the first time in her life, Helen saved our entire family from falling apart. I am extremely grateful to her.

Acne Treatment from €100
Treatments at Ailesbury Clinic fall into three main categories: 1) Topical treament is adequate for mild acne. This works by exfoliating the skin and de-plugging the folicles. These treatments include: Agera Salicylic Wash which contains Salicylic acid and special hydrating agents, Agera Acne Shield which contains 2% Salicylic acid, 12% ascorbic acid and prostaglandin inhibitors to counteract the infection and inflamation associated with acne, Agera Peptide Antibac which contains and microbial enzyme to counteract infection, Topical Antibiotics e.g Arethromycin to kill bacteria in mild to moderately severe acne, RetinA Cream to reduce the number of comedomes - acne lesions. 2) Oral treatment with antibiotics, retinoids or hormones is prescribed for moderate or severe acne: Antibitoics i.e.The Clinic sometimes used during the infective phase of an outbreak, Anti-androgen is used in females resistant to antibiotics, with moderate to severe acne, treatment to reduce sebum production, inhibits bacteria and is anti-inflammatory and is used if the condition is severe or unresponsive to normal treatment. 3) Aurora Laser system, recently approved by the FDA for treatment of moderate acne vulgaries. This treatment is very safe. Recent advances in laser technologies mean this laser can now be used for acne in all skin types and in the treatment of acne scarring.
Acne Scars Treatment €150 - €750
After an acne lesion has healed, it can leave a red or hyperpigmented mark on the skin. This is actually not a scar, but rather a post-inflammatory change. The redness or hyperpigmentation is seen as the skin goes through its healing and remodeling process, which takes approximately 6-12 months. If no more acne lesions develop in that area, the skin can heal normally. Any color change or skin defect still present after 1 year is considered to be a permanent defect or scar. Ailesbury uses microneedling, dermaaroller for mild to moderate acne scarring and C02 laser resurfacing for more established scars.
Rosacea Treatment €100 - €350
A disorder involving chronic inflammation of the cheeks, nose, chin, forehead, or eyelids; it may cause redness, vascularity (increased prominence of the blood vessels), swelling or hyperplasia (increase in size of the tissue), or skin eruptions similar to acne. Causes, incidence, and risk factors The cause of rosacea is unknown. The disorder involves enlargement of the blood vessels just under the skin. It occurs most often in fair skinned people, particularly those who blush easily. Women are more commonly affected, but men are usually more severely affected. Symptoms usually begin between ages 30 to 50. Rosacea may be associated with other skin disorders (acne vulgaris, seborrhea) or eye disorders (blepharitis, keratitis).
