I had been to 2 other dentists in Busan to have a root canal & crown installed. I had bad experiences at both and I had heard good things about San Francisco. I had an amazing experience and wouldn't even think about going to another dentist in Busan now.
The dental clinic I went to before was in Centum City and they spoke English and had fancy facilities. I figured that meant I could trust them to get my crown right and... huuuuge mistake.
After 4 or 5 needless visits to the other place and totally avoidable pain in the dentist's chair, I gave up and started looking around in Busan for a better clinic.
I had heard good things about San Francisco Clinic so I got on the subway to Seomyeon. I figured it couldn't be any worse. It turned out to be the best dentist I've ever been to... including Texas, Ottawa, Toronto, Seoul, Cheonan, Daejeon, and Busan.
First of all, when you walk into the clinic, it doesn't feel as fancy as the other ones. But the staff are friendly, their English is passable, and the main thing is the dentist: Dr. Seo doesn't mess around. He can diagnose at a glance exactly what is wrong with your teeth, and he has this strange way of guessing things like, "oh I bet you haven't been able to sleep lately because that part of your jaw probably hurts while you're lying down". Eerie!
So long story even longer: it turns out my ceramic crown was cracking because my teeth kept banging it like a hammer.
The other dentists just replaced my crown and waited for it to crack again, then got the opportunity to stick my gums with sharp objects again. Instead of that, Dr Seo fixed my tooth, put in my crown, and repositioned my bite so that I'd have an easier time chewing without destroying my new crown.
I can literally feel the difference in my mouth as I type this.
And look: I'm not the kind of person who leaves reviews at all. You'd have to be a pretty terrible or a pretty amazing dentist to make me sit down and write all this.
But finding someone who a) knows what the heck he is doing, b) can explain it to you clearly and c) doesn't over-charge you for the work... that's worth sharing I guess.
Dr. Seo told me he's moving his clinic from Seomyeon to Choryang, which is fine, as long as he keeps working there himself. Right now, after all this, there's no dentist I would trust in Busan besides him. And I have more than enough experience under my belt to say that.
