What is a root canal procedure?

Root canal procedures, or endodontics, is a treatment for the inner pulp of the tooth. They are performed to save teeth from extraction. The dentist or endodontist, a root canal specialist, cleans out the decayed or damaged pulp without breaking the exterior of the tooth root. The cleaned root canal is filled with a bio-compatible rubber-like material called gutta-percha. They are also performed for patients with damaged teeth caused by accidents or fractures. The procedure takes one to two hours to complete.

What are the types of root canal procedures?

Primary root canal treatments are performed using stainless steel files. Stainless steel files could remove only a small amount of infection and could easily break. The more advanced and flexible nickel titanium files do not break easily and are able to clean the entire infected area easily. Rotary instruments used to clean the root canal are quicker than manual instruments. Other advanced root canal procedures make use of ultrasound or laser to effectively clean the root canal.

Is a root canal procedure painful?

Root canal procedures are performed under local anaesthetic. Patients will not feel pain during the procedure.

What is the recovery time after having a root canal procedures?

Patients take about three days to recover after a root canal procedure. Some patients require a week to recover from a root canal procedure.

When can I travel by air after a root canal procedure?

It is safe to travel by air one day after a root canal procedure. Patients should check with their dentist before embarking on their journey. If they feel pain or discomfort, they should postpone their journey until it abates.

What care is required after a root canal procedure?

Patients should take all prescribed medications correctly. They should not eat until the anaesthetic wears off. They should not eat or drink very hot or very cold food for at least a week. They should avoid eating hard food or sticky food. If swelling occurs they should sleep with their head raised for a few days to bring it down.

What are the alternatives to root canal procedures?

Alternatives to root canal procedures include extractions and pulp capping procedures.

Rating from 2 Reviews Highly recommendedTor, Norway, 25 May 16

Looking for a quality and fair price dentist in Tallinn? In my opinion you have found it. My experience with this clinic is extremely good. Started useing their services in 2004 and have used it regulary up till now. All treatments, smaller or bigger are dealt with in a highly professional way. As a norwegian I am of course very concerned about quality of the work, but also the price which is way beyond what I am used to from my country. Highly recommended. Exellent service, professionality and price.

Viru Dental Clinic

Hobujaama 4, Building of Nordea Bank, 4th floor, Tallinn, 10151
Viru Dental Clinic is the newest dental care center offering full-scale service29.04.2005.  “There are several dental care clinics in Tallinn, but only a few of them offer full-scale service. We are not oriented towards wealthier patients only, but to all who need dental treatment, because our aim is to a family-oriented dental clinic,” said Dr. Timo Paberit, who is the director of the Viru Dental Clinic opened this week. “That is why our slogan is also simple and human – a smile is for everyone!” Stomatologic full-scale service includes all aspects of general dentistry and oral surgery, ranging from treatment of the most common dental cavities and root canal treatment to areas of implantology and laser dentistry that are still in a developing state in Estonia. Free appointments for the first 200 people “Due to the reason that the dental health of the Estonian people is not excessively good and many people still lack their own dentist, we decided to offer free check-ups in our clinic in May – this way anyone can have an overview of their dental health status and see whether any cavities are present. A dental check-up lasts for 10-15 minutes and at the end of the visit the dentist also gives the patient a short written conclusion of their dental health status. Still, there is also a limit to our working capacities; therefore, we have set a limit of free check-ups to 200 visits, so it’s first come, first served!” The ne
Root canals from 28 €
Root canal treatment helps to save the teeth where the dental pulp is dead. Lack of circulation in dead pulp means that it also lacks the antibodies produced in the body. Such dental cavities and nerve canals usually contain bacteria; therefore, the aim of treatment is cleaning and filling the canal system. Usually cleaning and enlarging root canals is done during the first appointment, after which an antibacterial drug is placed into the dental cavity that is then sealed securely with a temporary filling. Root canal treatment may take from one to five appointments depending on the nature of dental root inflammation. Once the root canal system is free from infection, the canals are filled with points made from rubber-like material, gutta percha, in order to prevent the re-entry of bacteria into the root canal system. The next step after filling root canals is restoration of the dental crown. If the tooth is still alive, then anesthetics are used in root canal treatment. Root canal treatment of a dead tooth does not require anesthesia. Short-term pain may occur during the preparation of a root canal when material is being pushed through the root apex. The prognosis of successful root canal treatment is good. An X-ray imaging is performed half a year after root canal treatment to check the healing of any extensive apical bone destruction

Dental Implants from 588 €
The dental implant is the safest, most aesthetic and natural way to replace teeth. The base of a dental implant (a special screw) is surgically placed into the jawbone in order to replace the missing dental roots. After the screw has become integrated in the bone, a metalloceramic crown or ‘artificial tooth' is made. Such crown enables the jawbone to be spared that may not be possible with other types of prostheses where only the visible part of the tooth is restored. It is also possible to use an implant-supported bridge with several artificial crowns. An artificial root is cast from pure non-allergic titanium that is secured into the bone. Surgery is done in local anesthesia and may last for a couple of hours. An oral surgeon will use special drills to secure the implant into the jawbone. 3-6 months later when the titanium screws have integrated into the bone, the dentist will secure the prosthesis (made by a dental technician) into the oral cavity. In the meantime, the patient will wear a temporary prosthesis. What are the prerequisites for treatment? First, there should be enough bone in the jaw. One prerequisite of successful treatment is ideal oral hygiene. The patient should be ready to have regular check-ups every 3-9 months. Implant therapy is not age-limited. Thorough investigation such as X-ray imaging and cast model analysis is required before the initiation of treatment.
