The temporomandibular joint is the joint that connects the jaw to the skull. There are two temporomandibular joints on either side of the face.

The temporomandibular joint helps the jaws to move.

What are the disorders that affect the Temporomandibular Joint?

How are Temporomandibular Joint disorders treated?

Temporomandibular joints are treated by prescribing pain killers, anti-inflammatory medications or anti-depressants. Dentists also fit mouth guards or oral splints to treat temporomandibular disorders. Ultrasound treatments and placing heat and ice packs are also recommended.  Minimally invasive procedures to remove fluid or other debris are performed. Steroids or neuromuscular relaxant injections are administered to treat disorders. Surgical procedures are performed if the disorder is not resolved using other procedures. Alternative healthcare therapies like acupuncture, yoga and meditation, and chiropractic care are also effective in treating TMJ disorders.

Patients should not bite hard objects like pencils. They should not eat hard or chewy food products. They should relax and learn stress management. They should maintain correct posture. Dental Crowns
Crowns are a type of dental restoration which, when cemented into place, fully covers that portion of a tooth which lies at and above the gum line. In comparison, composite fillings/inlays/onlays are dental restorations that are used to fill in or cover over just a portion of a tooth. Since dental crowns encase the entire visible aspect of a tooth, a dental crown in effect becomes the tooths new outer surface. Crowns are used to rebuild broken or decayed teeth, to strengthen teeth, and as a means by which to enhance the cosmetic appearance of teeth. Crowns can be made out of porcelain/ceramic, gold alloy, or a combination of both. Dental crowns are often referred to as "dental caps".

Dental Implants
What are Dental Implants? Replicating the natural function and appearance of your lost teeth can be difficult to accomplish.  Dental implants are natural-looking replacements for missing teeth that also provide the same function as your natural tooth root. How are Dental Implants actually placed? First, implants, which looks like screws or cylinders, are placed into your jaw. Over the next two to six months, the implants and the bone are allowed to bond together to form anchors. During this time, a temporary teeth replacement option can be worn over the implant sites. Then once the bond is formed, replacement teeth, or bridges, will be created for you by Dr. Naji and attached to the anchors. After a short time, you will experience restored confidence in your smile and your ability to chew and speak.
