El Dr. Mario Riquelme cursó su entrenamiento en la especialidad de Oftalmología en el Hospital Universitario Barzilai, de la Universidad del Neguev en Ashkelon, Israel del 2013 al 2016. Durante este período, fungió como investigador líder de proyectos de investigación en glaucoma, desarrollado en el mismo hospital.
De igual manera, tomó el rol de director interino del departamento de glaucoma del hospital al final de su entrenamiento.
