Counsellor Biography:
I am a professionally qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist working in Private Practice in Kilmacanogue, Co. Wicklow. My core training was done at PCI College and I was awarded an honours degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Middlesex University in 2008. In addition to my private practice I have worked at the low-cost Living Life Centre for over 6 years. I have a particular interest in depression and suicide, anxiety and panic attacks, self-esteem issues, stress, loss and bereavement, and relationship issues.
My core training is Person Centred but through training and ongoing professional development, I also use other therapy frameworks which include:
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
Solution Focused Brief Therapy
Gestalt Therapy
Reality Therapy
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
In addition to my counselling experience, I have worked as a Secondary Teacher for 17 years and hold a separate BA degree in Physical Education and Mathematics. I have worked with teenagers and students in a teaching and counselling capacity and my broad range of insight gives me a deep insight into the problems faced by young people including anxiety, depression, bullying, exam stress and relationship issues.
Whilst living in Canada for two years, I studied for a Masters in Counselling at Acadia University, Wolfville, Nova Scotia.
I am a member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and follow their strict code of ethics and practice. I am also fully insured for public and professional indemnity.
