"Dr. D renewed my belief in me & others"

I met Denise after resigning from from a role within in Pro Football Club. The situation I was in left me feeling worthless, intimidated and detached from those who are dearest to me. From the start Denise was friendly, accomodating, honest and most of all very keen to support me in resolving my dilemma and psychological state.

Throughout the sessions we had, Denise provided a forthright and honest approach to providing mechanisms and strategies to help me. I now have a greater understanding of how and why I got to the situation I was in and I have now been able apply my learnings to my new role in International football environment. This has benefitted my family, myself and my new employer.

I can thoroughly recommend Dr. D and will remain in contact with her going forwards.

"I genuinely appreciated how she combines her techniques"
90%Reviewed 21 Nov 2017 Review verified by phone and email.
Treatment Received: Psychologist Consultation
When I started seeing Denise I was in quite a dark place. All aspects of my life didn’t feel right. There were health problems, my career was absolutely undetermined, my marriage didn’t feel right, so my sense of self-worthiness needed a lot of attention.

I genuinely appreciated how Denise combines her techniques; she would listen and be sympathetic with the most sensitive questions, but still, bring up the difficult questions I was trying to bury deep in my brain and avoid answering. In the situations where I need confidence and am afraid to make the next step, she would encourage me and act almost as a life coach.

Denise really takes time to get to know you and each session provides you with a couple of things to look at or to pay attention to. Almost like small tasks to keep you on your new path/ strategy.

I would have no second thoughts recommending Denise to anyone who feels that they would benefit from the therapy.

"She provides fantastic advice and support from a wide range of sources"
100%Reviewed 06 Oct 2017 Review verified by phone.
Treatment Received: Psychiatrist Consultation
I went to see Denise as I was suffering from what I thought at the time to be anxiety and depression. Denise quickly identified that this was, in fact, a case of low self-esteem, subsequent negative feeling and showed me a completely new way to look at situations, look at life and hold my head higher.

Denise is an absolutely fantastic person and psychologist. She is so very positive, a wonderful role model, easy to talk to and get along with, and provides fantastic advice and support from a wide range of sources - be it clinical studies, life experience or a combination of the two, to help you look at things in a different way. I cannot recommend her enough. In addition, from the outset, she said to me that she does not expect a person to be in long-term psychology for the same need, but that she would expect to have 8-12 weeks with you to address the problem, this is great and not always the case with all therapists! There is an end goal and regularly checking in on your progress from Denise in the sessions.

Treatment Received: Counselling
Dr. Freeman gave me an alternative perspective on myself and made me more aware of my behaviors and thinking. I not only resolved my current issues but learned new ways of thinking to help me choose more constructive methods of dealing with problems. I really enjoyed spending time with Dr. Freeman, her informal and genuine approach made her the only counselor I progressed with and felt comfortable talking to. I would definitely recommend her as my first choice for anyone seeking counselling.

"I do not regret investing my time in coming to see her"
100%Reviewed 03 Sep 2017 Review verified by phone and email.
Treatment Received: Psychiatrist Consultation
After a lifelong struggle with coming to terms with my sexuality, I felt it really important I addressed the way being closeted for such a long period of time may have impacted my mental health.

At the point I met Dr. Freeman, I was locked in a slightly downward spiral of procrastination, self-loathing, depression and catastrophizing. My self-confidence and self-esteem were also at all time lows. Having come out 4 months prior, I was effectively trying to discover what made me, me again, at the age of 26.

Following 12 sessions using a mixture of techniques and a lot of talking therapy with Dr. Freeman, I can safely say I do not regret investing my time in coming to see her. Whilst at first I felt the process a little self-indulgent, the impact it has had on my ability to understand mine and others behavior and the impact that bears has been invaluable.

Dr. Freeman's room at the Westlake Clinic was my own personal oasis in the middle of Central London for 12 weeks. Highly recommended.

"She has helped me look at things from new perspectives"
100%Reviewed 26 Aug 2017 Review verified by phone and email.
Treatment Received: Treatment for Depression
Since my early teens I've experienced periods of depression and at 32 years old I accepted that I'd always be this way, which was a really difficult feeling. Thankfully a close friend insisted I get help, and after seeing my GP I was diagnosed with a recurrent depressive disorder and prescribed medication. While I accept that antidepressants do work for some people, I was keen to have therapy to help me understand my feelings, why I behave in certain ways, so I could find a way to deal with this long-term before deciding whether to take medication as well.

I was very nervous before my first appointment with Dr. Freeman as I had seen 3 counselors/therapists previously that I never felt got to the bottom of the issue. I think Denise must have sensed my nervousness as she immediately made me feel at ease. Dr. Freeman has been a great listener and a good laugh too. She has helped me look at things from new perspectives, identify my negative behaviors so they can be addressed before getting out of control and has taught me so many strategies and ways of dealing with unwanted thoughts and other issues.

It is an ongoing process but over the past few months I've felt like a much happier person overall and I can't describe how grateful I am for Denise's help. I still have my moments, but I feel like I'm better equipped now for whatever life throws at me.

My appointments with Denise were normally at Violet Hill, a lovely homely location which I found to be very calming.

"A good atmosphere and conducted in a non-judgemental manner"
90%Reviewed 03 Aug 2017 Review verified by phone and email.
Treatment Received: Psychologist Consultation
A lot of times during your life, you'll go to a doctor to do a check-up. The same is not usually true of mental health, though (and even more so for men!). I decided I'd go in for a "check-up" kinda thing. I'd never had a consultation with any psychologist/therapist, and I had what I thought might be some minor signs of OCD, along with some on-and-off sexual performance issues, a professional's opinion on these seemed like a logical thing to do.

Dr. Denise let me know on the very first session that she's a "results-oriented" professional and that the ideal treatment has an ending and is not meant to go on indefinitely — good! Results were what I was looking for! In just 6 weeks, with two sessions each week, we were able to get to the bottom of most of the issues I went in for. Dr. Denise also presented me with helpful tips in moving forward with similar situations. To add to that, I was given some good and thorough explanations of other aspects of me I wasn't aware of: putting names to things helps a lot!

I would recommend Dr. Denise as a therapist to anyone I know. She was always helpful, caring, and thoughtful. Her insights were always relevant, and the sessions always had a good atmosphere and were conducted in a non-judgemental manner.

Anxiety - Alternative Treatment
Anxiety is used to describe feelings of worry, fear and unease. Typically, it incorporates both the emotional and physical sensations we experience when worried or nervous. Anxiety is related to the ‘fight or flight’ response and, while unpleasant, this is a normal reaction when our body perceives a threat. We will all feel anxious at some time and it’s very common to feel tense or unsure about a potentially stressful situation, such as an exam, starting a new job, or moving home. However, some of us will be affected more than others. Despite being a normal experience, if these feelings are very strong or are lasting a long time, it can be overwhelming.

Couples Therapy
Couples counselling (which can also be referred to as marriage guidance) is a form of therapy that looks to improve communication and resolve issues within an intimate relationship. In contrast to counselling for relationship issues, which can be undertaken solely through individual sessions, couples counselling is a term applied to talk therapy for two people within a relationship. With this in mind, counsellors who offer this form of therapy should have the relevant training to help them work with the dynamics of a couple. While couples counselling is ideally suited to couples attending the sessions together, if your partner is reluctant you can look to speak to a couples counsellor on your own to begin with. You may find your partner wants to join you after you have had some initial sessions alone - or you may find it helpful to intersperse couple sessions with individual sessions. In regards to the techniques used, some of the work you do will take place within your counselling sessions themselves - however many couples counsellors will also ask you to carry out 'homework'. Typically your counsellor will ask you either to do a task or discuss something specific when you get home. During your next session you will get the chance to talk about your homework, discuss any challenges you came up against and how the experience made you both feel.
