About Dr. Denise A. Freeman CPsychol, PsychD, MSc, BA (Hons), HCPC Registered

I am passionate about people and I excel at resolving problems. My aim is to understand your presenting issue in depth, look for patterns in relationships and current behaviour and to work with you to formulate effective solutions.

Depending on your needs, I can employ a wide variety of psychological models and techniques (CBT, psychodynamic, person-centered, EMDR) and work integratively. That is, using integrative psychotherapy, your therapy is tailored to your specific need for optimum results.

Being experienced, well read and informed on the latest in psychological trends and tools, I apply contemporary research, psychological theory as well as psychological assessments to formulate for a variety of occupational and life challenges including anxiety, depression, body dysmorphia, work stress- all  in a safe, warm and confidential setting. Client safety and integrity is of utmost importance, being informed by the Code of Ethics and Conduct, as stipulated by The British Psychological Society.

I am happy to work on a one-to-one setting or you may choose to see me with your partner, or with your family. Recognising that a weekly face-to-face session is not always possible for many individuals, including busy executives who travel extensively or are based abroad, I offer an individually tailored service that we can design together, combining personal meetings with Skype and/or telephone sessions to maintain regular contact.

For your assurance I am an AXA, BUPA, AVIVA, ALLIANZ, CIGNA, WPA AND VITALITY HEALTH/PRUDENTIAL healthcare provider.

To me, she is without a doubt the best in her field

5 50 Psychotherapist Consultation

I have been working with Denise as my therapist for a few years. She is beyond doubt one of the most insightful, knowledgeable and caring practitioners I have ever had the privilege to come across. Her academic background is extensive and this clearly comes through in the way that she is able to cut through straight to the core issue, adopting various powerful techniques, but always in such a sensitive and calming manner. I highly recommend Denise to anyone looking for support. To me, she is without a doubt the best in her field.

I'm immensely grateful to her and can't recommend her enough

5 50 Psychologist Consultation

Denise is the best therapist I've ever met and I have had many and none of them was able to help me as Denise did. Her healing energy, vast expertise in psychology and compassion create a safe space where I confronted childhood traumas and the loss of my brother. She empowered me to explore my emotions and past with newfound resilience, guiding me towards self-discovery and healing. Denise is not only a skilled therapist but also a genuinely lovely person, offering unwavering support and guidance. I'm immensely grateful to her and can't recommend her enough.

Thank you!

This psychologist has a gift

5 50 Psychologist Consultation

Denise is extraordinary. Not only has she helped me to change my life in ways I didn't think possible, her empathy and intuition is remarkable.

I've had treatment for trauma, chronic depression and anxiety for many years and from various different therapists and psychologists.

I know people tend to think their therapists are wonderful and believe me I do, but Denise has more than the ability to listen and to help reframe perspectives.

She explains the brain and how behaviour and feelings form, which has given me the ability to recognise and understand my own emotional responses and take control of them.

She recognised symptoms of bipolar disorder in me which doctors had missed over 20 years. The diagnosis that followed has meant the right treatment and the end of behavioural problems I believed were my fault and felt such guilt about.

She has a gift. She has made it an art. I cannot recommend her highly enough.

I can't recommend her enough

5 50 Psychologist Consultation

The reason I sought treatment with Denise was that I was dealing with grief (still am, as I have learned that grief is a very long journey), regularly feeling, and also self-confidence issues.

I cannot recommend Denise enough, I always felt like she was very engaged, professional, prepared, and invested in helping me to get better but at the same time I always felt like she was very personal.

I never felt judged and always felt understood, 100% understood. She's taught me preventative measures that I have incorporated into my day-to-day. I'm really forever grateful for the sessions with Denise.

Also worth mentioning that I had all the sessions online via Zoom, in case you are reading this and wondering if that might change the experience, it really didn't at all!

I was still able to build great trust with Denise. Denise is amazing! If you aren't sure - try a session and let your impression from the session guide you! I can't recommend her enough!

The care she provided was exceptional

5 50 Psychotherapist Consultation

Best in the business! I’ve suffered from an extreme and severe form of OCD for many decades and got to a state where each day I was ‘surviving’ not living. I couldn’t eat, go out without scrubbing my body with antiseptic couldn’t work properly and be in excruciating physical pain. I knew if I carried on, I was close to the end. As a last gasp, I decided to get help. I am so so thankful for finding Denise. I probably wouldn’t be here if not for From thinking I couldn’t be helped, I can now eat properly, I cook, I opened my windows for the first time in years, my physical scars have healed and I am rising fast at work.

The care she provided was exceptional. She knew exactly how to get me to talk and explained what was wrong. It felt good to find out that I am not ‘weird’ and that there was a way out. It was hard work and there’s no silver bullet. I had to face my fears. But as hard as I worked I knew Denise was there with me every step of the way, encouraging me when it was right and providing tough love when it was needed. I don’t trust people easily but as I kept an open mind and listened to her and tried what she asked I started breaking free of the OCD.

With COVID I see people who don’t consider themselves as having OCD starting to behave like me during my early stages - fearfully and they don’t seem to know when or how to stop cleaning. When you start thinking about how to clean something is it’s a dark path. I also work in a team that now works from home. And I see people are struggling.

So If you think you may need help but don’t know how to ask for it or even if you think maybe you are ok but something doesn’t feel right, I urge you to at least make your first appointment with Denise. You won’t regret it!

Dr D is absolutely top tier when it comes to psychotherapy. I came back to her after a few years when I was in need of more therapy, and I will continue to return as she is brilliant. I highly recommend

5 50 OCD - Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Treatment

I am a 33-year old man, and I am not ashamed to say that Dr Freeman's treatment was really helpful to overcome my nail-biting habit.

Denise was extremely committed, with 15min catch-up every morning and evening, including weekends, at the beginning of the treatment (then slowly spacing out) to "set me up for the day" or "debrief the day", respectively.

I was particularly impressed by Denise's capacity to always come up with a different angle to discuss my OCD (basically 15 times a week!) and each of them was always adding value and giving me a new tool to fight my addiction.

I don’t think that willpower has ever been my strongest skill, but Denise definitely helped me developing it so that I can better control myself and resist the temptation. I highly recommend Dr Freeman.

Therapy is a gift and she knows exactly how to use it

5 50 Psychologist Consultation

I spent years thinking that I should just "power through" a breakdown or I was "being too sensitive" when I couldn't get out of bed, when, in reality, I had severe anxiety and depression. Dr. Freeman helped me get through the darkest time of my life and realise the male stigma with depression was dangerously outdated. If you're struggling with mental health, please talk to Dr. Freeman. Therapy is a gift and she knows exactly how to use it.

I am a work in progress, finally in the present and hopeful for the future

5 50 Counselling

For the first time in my life, I was able to open up and deal with painful situations from the past. I felt a great deal of trust in Denise and she enabled me to face and resolve these issues. I am a work in progress, finally in the present and hopeful for the future. I have no reservations in recommending Denise as a warm, caring professional therapist and I will always be grateful for her insight and help.

Anxiety - Alternative Treatment

Anxiety is used to describe feelings of worry, fear and unease. Typically, it incorporates both the emotional and physical sensations we experience when worried or nervous. Anxiety is related to the ‘fight or flight’ response and, while unpleasant, this is a normal reaction when our body perceives a threat. We will all feel anxious at some time and it’s very common to feel tense or unsure about a potentially stressful situation, such as an exam, starting a new job, or moving home. However, some of us will be affected more than others. Despite being a normal experience, if these feelings are very strong or are lasting a long time, it can be overwhelming.

Couples Therapy

Couples counselling (which can also be referred to as marriage guidance) is a form of therapy that looks to improve communication and resolve issues within an intimate relationship. In contrast to counselling for relationship issues, which can be undertaken solely through individual sessions, couples counselling is a term applied to talk therapy for two people within a relationship. With this in mind, counsellors who offer this form of therapy should have the relevant training to help them work with the dynamics of a couple. While couples counselling is ideally suited to couples attending the sessions together, if your partner is reluctant you can look to speak to a couples counsellor on your own to begin with. You may find your partner wants to join you after you have had some initial sessions alone - or you may find it helpful to intersperse couple sessions with individual sessions. In regards to the techniques used, some of the work you do will take place within your counselling sessions themselves - however many couples counsellors will also ask you to carry out 'homework'. Typically your counsellor will ask you either to do a task or discuss something specific when you get home. During your next session you will get the chance to talk about your homework, discuss any challenges you came up against and how the experience made you both feel.

Dr Dr Denise Freeman

Biography:
My interest in psychology began in 1991 when I became interested in the psychographics of advertising. In 1998 I volunteered as a counselor working with juveniles and in 2006 embarked on an epic academic sojourn which culminated in the award of Doctor of Counselling Psychology, where I am now a chartered psychologist and a member of the Health Care Practitioners Council (HCPC). I have extensive experience in supporting older adults with health-related issues-including coping with cancer, bereavement, anxiety and depression; working relationally with mature adults with life and occupational challenges and supporting young patients with emotional and behavioural disorders. I have a natural ability to engage, empathise, put patients at ease, build and maintain lasting relationships. Having worked in Finland, The Netherlands, U.S.A, Romania, Malaysia and Nepal, I have a rich, insightful and balanced socio-cultural worldview.
