Carl Davies

Job Title:
  Physiotherapist
Biography:
Carl Davies is a clinical specialist physiotherapist. He has 15 years experience dealing with Health and Disease. He first gained a degree in Health, Exercise & Nutrition in Leeds, in which he was able to tailor the learning experience to suit his interests. He chose to focus on the human behaviour/health psychology aspect of issues relating to health, disease & nutrition. Clinical placements were spent with Clinical Psychologists working in the areas of Obesity, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome & Chronic Pain and his final dissertation was examining the impact of stress on human behaviour. On completing this degree he then began to specialise in behaviour change, working with people on various issues relating to health and obesity. After working in Spain & America, Carl decided to return to formal education and went on to study Physiotherapy in Salford. He gained a 1st Class Honours Degree before quickly moving through the NHS ranks to become a Senior Physiotherapist dealing with a full range of neuromusculoskeletal conditions. He then began to specialise in chronic pain and went on to study for an MSc in Exercise & Nutrition Science, focusing on biochemistry and physiology, before taking up a post as a Clinical Specialist in CFS. Training in Acupuncture sparked Carl's interest in Eastern Philosophy medicine. His background in biochemistry and physiology made it difficult for him to accept the conclusions often drawn by proponents of the philosophy. He did however become inspired by the philosophy's approach of viewing the body as one large system of smaller integrated system and began applying this approach to his own understanding of the body, based on his western training. This well-rounded depth of knowledged has allowed Carl to study health from an objective perspective, and placed him on his path to breaking new ground into the biochemistry and physiology of stress. Alongside helping patients return to a functional, improved quality of life, Carl is writing a book on what he believes to be the real cause of ill-health as a result of stress. He clearly cites the biochemical processes and pathways which are at fault and outlines why the current thinking may be missing some important points. However, where Carl differs is that he is not selling a magic potion or solution. He understands that the body is far more intelligent than any scientist, doctor or medication and firmly believes that by making sensible well-balanced lifestyle choices, both physical and psychological, you can restore your body's natural healing processes and significantly improve your quality of life. Carl has a proven track record in helping people with Musculoskeletal conditions, Chronic Pain, CFS, Fibromyalgia and Lifestyle Management. He has continued to combine his interest in biochemistry and physiology with various post-graduate training in traditional physiotherapy practices for general musculoskeletal problems, eastern interventions such as acupuncture and also psychological training in areas of Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and Mindfulness. During his profressional developement Carl has developed a unique approach which has allowed him to help people who have struggled for long periods with Chronic Pain, CFS etc and who have tried numerous interventions without seeing improvement.
