"The surgeon came to see me each day. The entire experience was made as comfortable as possible"

Treatment Received: Hip Replacement
I was waiting two years for a full hip implant operation. I first heard an interview with Bronagh from Londonderry, who had her operation at the Nordorthopaedics clinic and was very satisfied with the whole experience. I went on the internet for further information.

The clinic representation Jurate Seskaite contacted me and the process went forward from then. Jurate helped me plan and coordinate for my operation. She arranged for me to have a telephone conversation with the surgeon Sarunas Tarasevicius which was reassuring. When the date was set for the operation Jurate took away any hassle by advising and booking hotels as my wife and sister in law went with me.

Everything was meticulously scheduled including transport to and from the airport, transport to the clinic and later to the rehabilitation centre. On the morning of the operation, I arrived at 9.00 am. I was immediately taken for an x-ray and then blood and heart tests.

The staff and nurses at the clinic were very friendly and all could speak English. I had my operation at 11.00 am and back in my room at 1.00pm. After three days I was taken to the rehabilitation centre. This is a very modern and well-equipped facility.

I was given a planned activity sheet for light, massage and physio treatment. This I understand now is essential for short and longer-term recovery. I left the rehab centre feeling relaxed and already quite mobile.

Overall, I can only say that it was an experience which I am very grateful for and would highly recommend it.

The clinic I attended was the Nordorthpaedics clinic at Savanoriu street Kaunas. I can only say that the entire experience at this clinic was excellent in every respect. I was greeted by the staff in a very friendly, polite and sympathetic manner. I was always well informed and reassured. The food was excellent and every consideration was given to my needs.

I received physiotherapy at the clinic and was quite mobile before I left. The surgeon came to see me each day. The entire experience was made as comfortable as possible.

"I am continuing to make a good recovery and I feel so thankful for the wonderful treatment"

Treatment Received: Cryotherapy,Physical Therapy,Massage
I traveled to Lithuania for total hip replacement surgery at Nordorthopeadics Clinic in April. I would recommend this clinic highly to anyone thinking about going abroad for surgery from the UK. If they want great treatment at almost half the cost of private treatment here. It is also possible to apply for reimbursement of costs using the EU Cross-border Healthcare Directive.

I was in a lot of pain from osteoarthritis and was impressed by the speedy replies to my emails from Jurate at the clinic and how quickly she arranged everything for me considering the waiting time in the UK was 41 weeks. The clinic's website gives comprehensive information and has many positive testimonials from past patients. I was also given phone numbers of previous patients who had agreed to speak with me about their experience of the clinic. They recommended the clinic and had successful surgery, so I decided to go to Lithuania for my new hip.

Jurate put together a comprehensive package which included everything except flights - the hotel, clinic appointments, the surgery, transport and Rehabilitation post surgery. The team at the clinic were amazing, particularly the expert surgeon and anesthetist who was very approachable and reassuring. I felt safe and cared for. After the surgery, I was walking with help that afternoon and continued to make progress over two days at the clinic then during my 10 days at the rehabilitation Spa where there is a nurse and doctor on call 24/7.

A package of treatment was arranged there, after consultation with the doctor and included Physiotherapy, massage, light and cryotherapy to help heal my wound. The food is also very good. I am continuing to make a good recovery and I feel so thankful for the wonderful treatment. I received from everyone and would certainly recommend Nordorthopeadics Clinic to everyone who requires hip surgery.

"I felt very confident going and the experience met my expectations"

Treatment Received: Hip Replacement
I had a total hip replacement, I had been waiting almost one and a half years and could be waiting another year before getting surgery in Northern Ireland. I was delighted to hear of Nordorthopaedics and research before making contact and within two months of this, I had my surgery. I would recommend this 100% to anyone suffering and waiting for surgery on the NHS waiting lists. The surgery, aftercare and daily treatments at the rehabilitation center were fantastic and extremely good value for money.

Before going to the clinic I had researched. Spoken to Jurate, I felt very confident going and the experience met my expectations. I was not disappointed.

"I would wholeheartedly recommend this clinic to anyone who is considering surgery abroad"

Treatment Received: Hip Replacement
I traveled to Nordorthopaedics Clinic in Lithuania for total hip replacement surgery on 5th April 2018. I had advanced osteoarthritis in my left hip which had reduced my mobility considerably and I was in a lot of pain. The waiting time for an urgent consultation with an NHS Orthopaedic Consultant in Edinburgh was 41 weeks so I started looking for alternatives as the pain was so bad I couldn't walk more than a few steps. Thanks to brilliant surgeon Dr. Tarasevicius and his superb clinical team, since having my surgery the pain in my hip from the osteoarthritis has gone and each day my mobility is improving.

The professor, anesthetist, and the nursing staff were so supportive, reassuring and caring before and after surgery, up until leaving the clinic to go to rehabilitation. I continued my recovery at UPA Rehabilitation centre which has contributed so much to my wellbeing and mobility. Three weeks after surgery I feel so much better physically, mentally and emotionally. So I give heartfelt thanks to everyone at Nordorthopeadics for helping me to get my life back.

The cost of this surgery in Lithuania is about half the cost of private treatment in the UK and in my opinion a lot better as you are assured of the clinical expertise of Dr. Tarasevicius and his team and there is the opportunity to have excellent rehabilitation to aid recovery. The other advantage for UK patients is that it is possible to apply for reimbursement of clinical costs through the EU Crossborder
Healthcare Directive.

When searching the Internet for an alternative to the long wait for NHS treatment, Nordorthopaedics website stood out because of the clarity and comprehensive information, the opportunity to see the surgeons on video and I could read the positive testimonials of previous patients.

On contacting the clinic I was extremely impressed and reassured by the fast and efficient responses I received from Jurate, patient liaison. She is a fountain of knowledge and has great patience in answering questions. Jurate co-ordinates everything from the liaison with the surgical/clinical team to determine the best date for surgery, to booking hotels and transport. She designs a complete package for each individual apart from flights. Jurate can put you in contact with previous patients who are happy to share their experience and there is a private Facebook Forum with lots of information.

On arrival in Kaunas, I was met at the airport, then taken to my hotel where my son and his wife were waiting for me as they had traveled by a different route. I have to say that having the support of family or a companion is really helpful both pre and post surgery. The support of fellow patients is also invaluable as they have gone through the surgery too.

I was given an appointment time, then the following day is taken for my out-patient consultation at the clinic with Dr. Tarasevicius and for pre-op tests. On the day of surgery, I was given an extremely clean room and met the surgeon again, the anesthetist and nursing staff who were all reassuring and made sure I was comfortable. On examination of x-rays, the surgeon had made a final decision about the most suitable type of implant for my condition and anesthesia was discussed. After surgery I was up and walking with help, then next day I walked with two walking sticks. On the third day, prior to discharge and transportation to the rehabilitation center I was walking with one stick as instructed by the doctor. The food at the clinic was delicious, plentiful and chosen from a menu.

The rooms at UPA rehabilitation are spacious, light, bright and well furnished. Great bathrooms too. There are nurses and doctors on call 24/7 and all patients are given an individual programme of treatments with a timetable. This is flexible and times can be changed at reception. The package includes full board and the healthy delicious food is served buffet style. After my 10 days at rehab, I was fitter than when I arrived in Lithuania on 3rd April and walking further than I had been for a long time. My body is still adjusting to my new hip and I'm continuing with the exercise programme so it's onwards and upwards towards a full recovery.

I would wholeheartedly recommend Nordorthopeadic Clinic to anyone who is considering surgery abroad. I would be willing to discuss my experience with anyone who needs more information.

"The modern ward was comfortable, clean and with excellent 24/7 nursing care"

Treatment Received: Orthopaedist Consultation,Knee Replacement
I have suffered from painful osteoarthritis of both knees for a few years. I recently decided to seek medical advice, X-rays etc. In Wales, the waiting time for a knee replacement free under the NHS is 2 years. As I am almost 89 I asked about private treament and was told it would cost me almost £12,000 but could be done within a few weeks. My wife had heard of a few people going abroad for surgery, so we looked this up online. The Welsh private Surgeon wrote to me at length trying to dissuade me from going to Lithuania, saying the surgeons there weren't as reliable as in the UK. When I asked Google to find me a site dealing with knee surgery in Europe the website for Nordorthopaedics came up. First impressions are important and this page was packed with inspiring information! There were phone numbers to make contact, patient reviews, an outline of what would happen and costs. There were short videos from each of several Surgeons who might be involved in my care and information about air flights from the UK to Kaunas.

The next important point for me was seeing the name and email address for the Customer Service Representative. This young woman spoke, wrote excellent English and nothing was ever too much trouble whatever my query. She answered my numerous emails on the same day, and her arrangements for my admission were flawless. These included arranging the date and time for surgery, me being met at the airport, taxis to the hotel, then to the clinic next day, plus transport the 100 miles south to the UPA rehabilitation center for a week, and finally taxi back to Kaunas airport. Her involvement showed, she paid a great deal of attention to detail, for which I was very grateful. It made me more confident to step into what was for me a foreign country.

Meeting the surgeon and anesthetist on the morning of surgery. I was impressed with their friendly, cheerful and capable manner, with twice daily visits from both for the next three days. Having dreaded a spinal anaesthetic I was pleased to find the sedation left me with no recollection of the theatre. My recovery was speedy, with a tasty meal later and even a short walk in a Zimmer frame, aided by the physiotherapist before going to sleep! The modern ward was comfortable and clean, with excellent nursing care 24/7, with everyone speaking English.

At the Surgeon's recommendation my wife stayed with me seven days in the luxurious UPA Spa Rehabilitation centre in Druskininkai. Where I received daily physio, light therapy, massage and cryotherapy. My wife had the benefit of using the indoor heated swmming pool, and also walked to town to see the sights there. Three meals a day plus a large double room and ensuite bathroom was worth the extra we paid to stay there, not covered by the hospital bill. At the end of 13 days, I was able to climb the steep steps up into the Ryan Air aircraft to fly home without any bother. Since coming home I am able to walk without crutches, and try my hardest to do the range of physio exercises necessary to counter the stiffness post-op. I only need some Paracetamol occasionally, and my scar is a beautiful thin line only.

Looking back, at half the cost of what it is in the UK, I can only say that it was well worth the effort of travelling 2000 miles. The facilities and care are supeior to what I would have experienced in UK without doubt. I plan to have the second knee done in Kaunos by the same caring Surgeon and his team, when my right knee has settled down. I know that the Customer Service Rep will be there ready to help.
