Good experience from the moment of walking in. Professional kind and understanding throughout the hour long consultation.

Excellent facilities. I had total confidence in all the different testing procedures and equipment. Claire, the optomologist, was wonderful with me and so reassuring. Reception staff kind and efficient - great coffee too!

Complete Optician check and consultation with professionally qualified opthamologist who is also engaged in teaching and research on the subject. Very friendly and informative. Answered all my questions and extremely good value for money

Was chosen because of proximity to centre of city and range of treatments/expertise available. Also because of their independence in assessing my needs. Staff were flexible over appoitment time and the range of tests/checks carried out were thorough.

Prof Professor Jonathan Moore

Job Title:

Professor Johnny Moore is a well respected Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, specializing in ocular surface reconstruction, laser refractive surgery, cataract and other intra-ocular eye surgery and has personally completed over 13,000 refractive procedures. In addition to performing surgery, Professor Moore is actively involved in teaching, training and helping to run an online cataract and refractive MSc course through the University of Ulster. This course is designed to train both surgeons, optometrists, laser technicians and others involved in this area from around the world in the intricacies of laser and refractive cataract surgery. Johnny has spent time training and researching in various parts of the world including Australia where he trained in ocular surface reconstruction. He also carried out research for his PhD thesis in Harvard Medical School, Boston and trained under Professor Dimitri Azar.

Prof Colin Willoughby

Job Title:
Professor Colin Willoughby left Northern Ireland to attend medical school at the University of Liverpool, qualifying in 1988 with a BSc First Class in Anatomy, and a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with Honours (MBChB Hons) in 1991. He commenced ophthalmology clinical training in 1993 in Liverpool and obtained the Fellowship of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth) in 1996. His subsequent training continued in Liverpool and included a corneal fellowship for one year and training as a Specialist Registrar in ophthalmology until 1999, when he became Lecturer in Ophthalmology at the University of Liverpool.

Andrew Spence is the Principal Optometrist at Cathedral Eye Clinic. He is a fully qualified Ophthalmic Dispenser and Optometrist. Andrew is also a member of the Optometry Northern Ireland Executive which promotes excellence and influences developments in the provinces optometric services. A further role he undertakes is acting as the Optometry Northern Ireland representative to Northern Ireland GPs.

Mr Richard Best

Job Title:
Mr Richard Best is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast. He qualified from Queen’s University Belfast Medical School in 1988 with Distinction in Medicine and Surgery and an Honours degree in Biochemistry. He started training in ophthalmology in 1990 at the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast and obtained the Fellowship of Ophthalmology (FRCOphth) from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 2004. During his training he developed an interest in retinal surgery and in 1996 undertook a fellowship in advanced vitreoretinal surgery at the University of Michigan in the USA, one of the leading centres for retinal surgery in the world. In 1997 he was appointed consultant ophthalmic surgeon at the Royal Victoria Hospital Belfast where he currently practices. He was Clinical Director for Ophthalmology at the Royal Victoria Hospital from 2004-2008.

Mr Wing Chan is a highly skilled Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, specialising in Vitreo-Retinal Surgery, Cataract Surgery and Medical Retina conditions. Mr Chan has been practicing  in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast since 1995. After having spent a year in Sydney Eye Hospital, he then took up his consultancy post in 2005. Mr Chan has been consulting in Cathedral Eye Clinic for the past 7 years.
