Dr Julian Theng

Biography:
Dr Theng is the founder, Group Chairman and Medical Director of Eagle Eye Centre. He graduated from the National University of Singapore (NUS) in 1992 with MBBS degree. Obtained post graduate qualifications, MMED (Ophth), FRCS (Edinburgh) and FRCOhpth (London). As a cornea specialist, Dr Theng is renowned as a high volume surgeon in the areas of LASIK & refractive surgery, cornea transplants, as well as cataract surgery, performing few thousands of such surgeries each year alone. He and EEC were awarded surgeon and centre of excellence in femtosecond LASIK surgery in 2012 by Ziemer, a German company specializing in femtosecond LASER. With special interest in the field of Presbyopia treatments, Dr Theng is well-regarded for his expertise in performing multifocal Intra-Ocular Lens (IOL) implant surgeries. In 2008, he was selected to be Singapore’s representative surgeon to conduct the Phase 4 Clinical FDA Approval Trial for the new Restor +300ADD Multifocal lens implant and has performed over 1,000 multifocal lens implants in cataract surgery and he has also written a book on Presbyopia. He has also been one of the pioneers of KAMRA inlay surgeries through Femtosecond Laser assisted pocket technique in 2013 and is also the 1st surgeon in Asia to perform Raindrop inlay surgeries for Presbyopia in 2013. A sought-after speaker who has spoken at global conferences, such as the World Ophthalmology Congress and many more, Dr Theng travelled the world to lecture and teach on LASIK, cataract and presbyopia treatments, he is also a member of Editorial Board for the Journal of Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today (CRST) Europe. He represents Asia as a key opinion leader in the field of Cataract and refractive surgery for Alcon, AMO and Ziemer.

Dr Wee Kiak Lim

Dr Lim Wee Kiak is the co-founder and group Chief Executive Officer of Eagle Eye Centre. He graduated from medical studies in the National University of Singapore (NUS) with an MBBS in 1992 and started his postgraduate training in Ophthalmology in 1995, graduating with a Master’s degree from NUS (MMED) and two specialist postgraduate qualifications in Ophthalmology from UK (FRCS Edinburgh and FRCOphth London) in 1998. He completed one year uveitis and ocular inflammation Fellowship at National Eye Institute, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda USA in 2003. Before joining Eagle Eye Centre, Dr Lim served as a consultant and a subspecialist in ocular inflammation and immunology at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He is a specialist in Ocular Inflammation, Immunology and Uveitis and has authored 26 scientific peer-reviewed publications and 9 book chapters. He is also a member of the International Uveitis Study Group (IUSG), International Ocular Inflammation Society (IOIS) and American Uveitis Society (AUS). He serves as advisor to Singapore Opticianry Practitioners and chairman of the advisory board of Ngee Ann Polytechnic School of Optometry. Dr Lim was the Deputy Director of National Healthcare Group Eye Institute and head of uveitis ocular immunology and inflammation, Tan Tock Seng Hospital from 2007 – 2010. He is serving as a visiting consultant to SNEC and Tan Tock Seng Hospital and a member of the Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital Medical Board. Dr Lim is an accredited LASIK eye surgeon since 2003 and has performed thousands of eye surgeries including complex cataracts surgeries. He is actively involved in teaching and training young eye surgeon in SNEC and Tan Tock Seng Hospital and he has been invited as an examiner for various eye examinations.

Dr Jacob Cheng

Graduated with an MBBS degree from the National University of Singapore in 1995. He went on to specialise in the field of Ophthalmology and obtained the MMED (Ophth) in 2003 and postgraduate qualifications from Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd). He is a Consultant Surgeon in Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology and subspecialises in the field of Vitreoretinal Diseases. His main expertise is in the fields of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular diseases, inherited retinal disorders and diagnostic visual electrophysiology. He has also performed numerous advanced small incision cataract (phaco-refractive) surgeries with wavefront, toric and multifocal intraocular lenses, and femto-laser bladeless LASIK & Epi-LASIK procedures. Dr Cheng also has special interest in electrophysiology, having trained with Professor Graham Holder at the world-renowned Moorfields Eye Hospital. He has been invited to give lectures and teaching workshops at many meetings around the region on areas of medical retina and retinal imaging. Dr Cheng is also an adjunct research scientist with the Singapore Eye Research Institute (SERI), clinical teacher with the National University of Singapore (NUS) and part-time consultant at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). He is involved in many pioneering research projects in drugs and in collaboration with many international instituitions for research. He has also published in many peer-reviewed scientific papers. Dr Nai Wee Chng

Graduated with Honours in Medicine, Surgery, and Obstetrics from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and National University of Ireland in 1993. He gained full-certification in the United States Foreign Medical Graduates Examinations and held full registrations to practice in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Ireland. He later specialized in Ophthalmology, earned a Masters in Medicine (Ophthalmology) from NUS, and was appointed a Clinical Tutor in the Faculty of Medicine, and an adjunct research fellow at Singapore Eye Research Institute. He gained full-certification from the International Council of Ophthalmology. Dr Chng received Fellowships from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Glasgow, College of Surgeons in Hong Kong, and the Academy of Medicine in Singapore. He also holds a Diploma in Aesthetic Medicine from the American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine. Dr Chng has conducted and presented clinical research on Aspheric Wavefront Lenses, Mix and Match Presbyopic Lenses, and Multifocal Lenses. He has practiced as a Consultant in the Cataract and LASIK Service in a public institution and gained wide experience with microkeratome LASIK, Epi-LASIK, and Femto-Second LASIK with different technology flap creation and ablation platforms. Dr Stephen Teoh

Dr Stephen Teoh, a Senior Consultant Ophthalmologist, specialises in retinal surgery (including retinal detachment repair, macular hole surgery, diabetic vitrectomy, diagnostic vitrectomy etc) and medical vitreoretinal diseases (including management of age-related macular degeneration, retinal vascular disorders, diabetic retinopathy etc). He is also trained in the diagnosis and management of uveitis and ocular inflammatory diseases, including immunosuppression with biologics and surgical diagnostic biopsies. Dr Teoh graduated from the National University of Singapore in 1998 and completed his Ophthalmology training with a Masters in Ophthalmology (2003) and obtained his Fellowship with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (FRCSEd) and Academy of Medicine (FAMS) in 2005. He undertook dual subspecialty training in both vitreoretina (surgical and medical) and uveitis, ocular immunology and inflammation at the Bristol Eye Hospital, UK in 2006. He also underwent an observership in HIV-related ocular inflammation at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, USA in 2007. He is also experienced in Comprehensive Ophthalmology including complex cataract surgeries, refractive surgery with wavefront, toric and multifocal IOLs, and pterygium excision with conjunctival graft (fibrin glue). He still runs uveitis and vitreoretinal clinics at the Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Khoo Teck Puat and the Communicable Disease Centre. Dr Teoh was also an Ophthalmic Advisor to the Harvard Medical School AIDS Initiative in Vietnam (HAIVN) CMV Retinitis Project since 2009-2012. Dr Teoh is currently a Senior Consultant, the Head of Uveitis service and immediate past Head of Research and Tan Tock Seng Hospital. Dr Kelvin Lee

Dr Kelvin Lee is the Director of Glaucoma Services at Eagle Eye Centre (EEC) Singapore. He is an eye specialist and surgeon for Cataract and Comprehensive Ophthalmology, sub-specializing in the management of Glaucoma, Cataract and Glaucoma surgeries. Dr Lee also performs implantable contact lens (ICL) and LASIK for the management of refractive errors and presbyopia. In 2000, Dr Kelvin Lee graduated from the National University of Singapore. After completing specialist training in Ophthalmology, Dr Lee was accredited in 2004 the Master of Medicine (MMED) in Ophthalmology and Member of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (MRCSEd); and in 2008 Fellow of the Academy of Medicine Singapore (FAMS) and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh (FRCSEd). Dr Lee is holding appointments as Executive Committee Member in the Singapore Society of Ophthalmology; and Honorary Treasurer and Council Member of the College of Ophthalmologists, Academy of Medicine, Singapore. His previous appointments included Chairman of SNEC’s JCI committee, Member of SNEC’s Quality Assurance Committee, Clinical Physician Faculty Member for Ophthalmology in SingHealth Residency Program, and Clinical Tutor for National University of Singapore and Duke-NUS. Dr Lee also received subspecialty training in glaucoma having completed an overseas (HMDP) Glaucoma Fellowship at the University of Tokyo in 2007 with special focus on management of Normal Tension Glaucoma. This experience was subsequently complemented with a local Glaucoma Fellowship at the Singapore National Eye Centre (SNEC). Dr Lee manages many patients with cataracts, using the latest intraocular lens implants (toric, multi-focal and multi-focal toric intraocular lenses). Dr Lee also performs implantable contact lens (ICL), femtosecond LASIK and cornea cross-linking in managing patients with refractive errors like myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism and presbyopia. As a Glaucoma sub-specialist, Dr Lee has managed many patients with glaucoma. Dr Lee performs glaucoma lasers (laser peripheral iridotomy, argon laser iridoplasty, selective laser trabeculoplasty [SLT] and transcleral cyclophotocoagulation [TCP]), as well as glaucoma surgeries – trabeculectomy, combined cataract and glaucoma surgeries and glaucoma tube implant surgeries.

Dr Lynn Yeo

Dr Lynn Yeo was awarded her Master of Medicine (Ophthalmology) and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 1993. She is also a Fellow of the Academy of Medicine (Singapore) and a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive surgery. In 2004, she was one of the first few surgeons to perform customised wavefront-guided LASIK in Singapore. She is one of the pioneers in Implantable Contact Lens surgery and the NearVision CK (Conductive Keratoplasty) procedure. She has published 13 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals as the first author. Dr Lynn Yeo previously practised at the National University Hospital and the Singapore National Eye Centre. She completed her basic medical training in Singapore and proceeded with specialist training both in Singapore and London, UK where she spent 2 years at Moorfields Eye Hospital. She has been in private practice since 1998 and is currently running a general ophthalmology practice with a special interest and large emphasis on Refractive and Cataract surgery at Eagle Eye Centre.

Dr Harold Choi

Dr Harold Choi graduated from the National University of Singapore and obtained his Masters in Medicine (Ophthalmology), and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh. He was a clinical lecturer at the NUS. He is trained in general ophthalmology, and has special interests in cataract surgery, pterygium surgery, LASIK and other corrective eye surgery, corneal diseases, inflammatory eye conditions, glaucoma, diabetic retinal disease and age-related macular degeneration. He has received formal accreditation in performing LASIK, toric and multifocal intraocular lens implant surgery, laser for diabetes, retinal vascular diseases and glaucoma, and intravitreal treatments for age-related macular degeneration. He has received grants for research involving screening for angle closure glaucoma, and genetic analysis of extraocular muscle tissue in eye movement disorders and droopy eyelids. His published research includes topics from allergic keratoconjunctivitis, diabetic macular disease, microscopic findings in droopy eyelids, cataract assessment and grading, and angle closure glaucoma. He has spoken at international conferences on topics ranging from squints in children, eye tumours in children, prevention of myopia progression and astigmatism correction with surgery. He is active in not-for-profit voluntary health service; he was the organizer of public health screening services in conjunction with World Glaucoma and World Diabetes Day. He has travelled to Bangladesh to treat patients who would otherwise not have had access to medical care. He is a strong advocate of preventive medicine, and has performed voluntary eye screening for thousands of patients. He believes that proper eye care starts young, and has given talks to primary school children and medical school undergraduates. Dr Harold strives to be at the forefront of medical technology and surgical techniques to enhance patient care, whilst holding fast to age-old values of making his patients’ health and safety his foremost consideration.

Dr Inez Wong

Dr Inez Wong is the Director of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Service at Eagle Eye Centre. Her special interests are in strabismus management and surgery (in adults and children) and paediatric ophthalmology, specializing in a range of eye problems in children such as refractive errors, myopia, amblyopia, external and anterior segment diseases, cataract, glaucoma, and retinopathy of prematurity. She also manages all general ophthalmological problems in adults and is experienced in performing adult cataract surgery using the latest toric, multi-focal and multi focal toric intraocular lenses. Dr Wong obtained her medical degree from Cambridge University in the United Kingdom and completed her ophthalmology training in Singapore, and is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Academy of Medicine Singapore. She underwent subspecialty fellowship training in Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London,United Kingdom. Prior to joining Eagle Eye Centre, Dr Wong was the Head of the Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus Service at National University Hospital (NUH), and Visiting Consultant at Jurong Health Services (JHS) and Health Promotion Board (HPB). She was actively involved in medical education, and was Assistant Professor and Undergraduate Medical Education Director in Ophthalmology at the National University of Singapore (NUS) for a number of years. Aside from teaching medical students, she has also trained many residents as a member of the core faculty of the NUH Ophthalmic Residency Program, and had been a regular examiner in both the undergraduate and postgraduate ophthalmology examinations. Apart from having published numerous peer-reviewed articles in notable journals and book chapters, Dr Wong has presented her work and conducted instructional courses at many regional and international meetings in various aspects of paediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. Dr Goh is the Director of Oculoplastics, Orbit and Lacrimal Services at Eagle Eye Centre. His special interests are in Oculofacial plastic surgery, Orbit, Lacrimal and Cataract Surgery. Dr Goh was an ophthalmic plastic surgeon in the Department of Ophthalmology, Tan Tock Seng Hospital and the National Healthcare Group Eye Institute. In addition to ophthalmic surgery, he also specializes in diseases of the Orbit, Lacrimal system and peri-ocular tissues. Dr Goh obtained his Masters degree in Medicine (Ophthalmology) in 2004, and has been a fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (London), College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) and the College of Ophthalmologists, Singapore since 2008. Dr Goh received the Ministry of Health Scholarship in 2006, and completed a post graduate fellowship in Oculoplastics and Orbital tumors at the Mayo Clinic, Minnesota. His specialty is in Orbital tumors, lacrimal system disorders, and ophthalmic facial reconstruction. He has published in international journals on a range of topics including general ophthalmic and oculoplastic surgery in addition to patient safety issues. Dr Shao Onn Yong

Dr Yong graduated from the Royal Free and University College Medical School, University College London in 2000, having been awarded the degrees of Bachelor of Medical Science with 1st Class Honours, and MBBS with Distinction. Following completion of his internship in London, Dr Yong returned to Singapore for his training in Ophthalmology, where he worked at Tan Tock Seng Hospital, Alexandra Hospital and the Singapore National Eye Centre. Dr Yong completed his General Ophthalmology training in 2008, and was subsequently admitted as a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, as well as the Academy of Medicine Singapore. He then underwent subspecialty training in both Surgical and Medical Vitreoretinal diseases in Singapore and at the University of Toronto, Canada under a Ministry of Health HMDP Scholarship. Dr Yong’s clinical interests are in phacoemulsification cataract surgery and management of complicated cataracts / complications of anterior segment surgery, as well as vitreoretinal conditions such as retinal detachments, vitreomacular interface disorders (macular holes and epiretinal membranes), age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinal vein occlusions (RVOs), diabetic eye disease and myopia control. He is also trained as a comprehensive ophthalmologist with extensive experience in treating other eye diseases. He continues to serve as a Visiting Consultant to Tan Tock Seng and Ng Teng Fong General Hospitals.
