   In 2003, the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences awarded Kirill B. Pershin a Medal of Honour of the Academy “For Practical Contribution to Strengthening of Public Health”.
   In 2004, the panel of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences awarded Kirill B. Pershin an order and a title of honour “The knight of Science and Art”.
   Today, Kirill B. Pershin is one of the most active operating surgeons in Russia and in the world (he performs more than 5,000 phacoemulsifications and more than 1,000 excimer laser corrections with the LASIK techniques annually). In 2002, in Moscow, Dr Pershin was awarded the title of the Best Ophthalmic Surgeon of the Year during the international congress of ophthalmologists on refractive and cataract surgery.

   In 1993, Dr Batalina graduated from the St. Petersburg State Medical University mamed after academician I.P. Pavlov.
   After graduation, in 1993–1994, she did an internship in ophthalmology at the Leningrad Regional Clinical Hospital. From 1994 to 1996, she did her clinical residency at the Department of Eye Diseases, St. Petersburg State Medical University named after I.P.Pavlov. After residency, she worked as an ophthalmologist at the unit of trauma and microsurgery, City Eye Hospital No.7 in St. Petersburg.

   Since 1998, Larisa V. Batalina has been working at the Excimer Group of Eye Clinics – first in St. Petersburg, then in Moscow. She has more than 30 research publications. She delivered ??reports and participated in conferences and congresses in Russia and abroad (Belgium, Holland, France). In 2002, Larisa V. Batalina defended her Ph.D. thesis on excimer laser surgery.
