During the assistantship process, he gained the qualification of the Turkish Surgery Association and was awarded the Nevin Baykent Health and Education Foundation Scholarship. In this way, Dr Peker went to Mayo Clinic College of Medicine Rochester, Minnesota, USA and conducted studies and observations in both liver, biliary tract and pancreatic surgery (3 months) and Obesity Surgery Center (6 months).
