Laservision Eye Clinic - Mr John Fenton F.R.C.S.I

Laservision Eye Clinic

45 Adelaide Road, Dublin, D2
Rating from 2 Reviews Very nice and helpfulGregor, Dublin, 07 02 14

I put off having my eyes laser treated for years, but lots of friends have had it done and a friend had her eyes done at Laservision last year. I went in for a consultation as they were running a January deal and spoke with the surgeon, John Fenton. He was very nice and helpful and drew some diagrams to explain what was going to happen, and explained to me that if I got it done then I might still need reading glasses when I got older and was generally very open and honest the way surgeons are :) I decided to shop around however and I also went to another clinic for a consultation. They were also very nice but I didn't get to meet the surgeon - instead I met with an optometrist. I felt they didn't explain quite as much about how I might need reading glasses etc - although that is in the small print of the thing they give you to sign. So I was really in two minds - the second clinic had told me that they use lasers to cut the flap whereas LaserVision user microkeratome. I called up Mr Fenton and we talked for a while about the benefits of choosing microkeratome versus lasers. He said he could use either - that if I preferred he could cut the flap with lasers instead but he preferred microkeratome as the process takes 4-5 seconds versus 20 seconds with lasers and so it's more comfortable for the patient and he feels he also gets better results with microkeratome. So I googled it and it looks like it's a never ending debate between surgeons as to which is better - no end in sight. In the end I went with LaserVision because I felt I trusted John and am very happy I did. I had the surgery done yesterday and here I sit typing on my laptop and I'm able to see almost 20/20. Still a little cloudy, but that will clear up over the next week, and I should be 20/20 by then.
