Bone grafting is a surgical procedure that replaces missing  in order to repair  that are extremely complex, pose a significant health risk to the patient, or fail to heal properly.

Bone generally has the ability to regenerate completely but requires a very small fracture space or some sort of scaffold to do so. Bone grafts may be autologous (bone harvested from the patient’s own body, often from the ), allograft (cadaveric bone usually obtained from a bone bank), or synthetic (often made of  or other naturally occurring and  substances) with similar mechanical properties to bone. Most bone grafts are expected to be reabsorbed and replaced as the natural bone heals over a few months’ time.

The principles involved in successful bone grafts include osteoconduction (guiding the reparative growth of the natural bone), osteoinduction (encouraging undifferentiated cells to become active osteoblasts), and osteogenesis (living bone cells in the graft material contribute to bone remodeling). Osteogenesis only occurs with autografts.

Apart from , missing teeth can be replaced by either a partial denture or by a fixed bridge. A partial  involves a lost or missing tooth or teeth being replaced by a false tooth or teeth that is/are removable. Normally, when less teeth need to be replaced, or just one side of the mouth is without teeth, a dental bridge will be utilized. A precious metal base will typically be used to create a bridge.

When a bridge is visible, porcelain will be bonded to the base. On some occasions, to cut down on costs, the base will also be made up of other non-precious metals.

Biography:

Dentistry for me is the perfect combination between science and art. As a people’s person first, I always say that life is better with a smile on your face and this is why I chose to specialize in Endodontics, oral reconstruction and dental rehabilitation. 

Being a dentist for over 18 years has taught me a lot. It has taken me from being a doctor, who heals sick mouths and alleviates pain, to a being a business woman with dreams and visions of making high quality dental care services available to all.

In my career I have gained authority and world leadership in various fields of dentistry such as Endodontics, Implantology, and general dentistry. Having set up several dental clinics and surgeries from the foundation up, and being certified to work as a dentist in the UK, Israel, The Netherlands and Belgium, I have gained valuable knowledge, which I am now paying forward. 

These days, I practice dentistry at my own clinics but I am also an outsourced consultant for organizations and dentists on the establishment and building dental clinics, management of dental clinics, complex project management, procurement of dental equipment etc. 

I am an adventurer and I love to travel and discover exciting places and people. In my business life, this is how I became an open networker, working with strategic partners all over the world to deliver my consultancy services as well as establish dental clinics in areas where demand for high quality treatment is needed.
