Dental Hygenist

Since its establishment in 1998, Ratoath Dental Centre has become renowned as a high quality, professional and friendly dental practice where the priority is the comfort of our patients. We have established a fine reputation for our approach to treatment and have four surgeries in our new premises.

We especially cater for nervous patients and provide dental treatment under Intravenous sedation if required. Families are most welcome and we try and make children’s visits fun! Dental treatment is provided on a private basis, but qualified patients are also seen under the RSI and North Eastern GMS (Medical Card) schemes. Our techniques and materials are continually updated to provide the latest in modern dentistry.

Cosmetic makeovers using porcelain veneers, power tooth whitening, or replacing metal fillings with white ones is very much part of what we do. Missing teeth can be replaced in many ways. These include using dental implants, porcelain crowns/bridgework, or a range of dentures using a metal framework or flexible acrylic partial dentures. We have our own resident orthodontist, a periodontist and two hygienists.

Whatever your dental needs Ratoath Dental Centre is all about the provision of high quality dentistry in a relaxed and comfortable environment at an excellent level of value.

"Everyone worked well as a team and the overall cleanliness was great"

Treatment Received: Dental X-Ray,Teeth Cleaning
On their website, this clinic mentioned they take special care of patients who have anxieties about the dentist. For this reason, I chose them. I had a cleaning and they also reconstructed two of my teeth.

They provided me with a printout of the costs at the consultation after they’d taken some x-rays. What they quoted me was exactly what I paid: 1100 Euros. They finished the work after two appointments and my next visit will be a 6-month check-up.

I loved that Ratoath didn’t have the normal, oppressive smell of a dental clinic. The staff were polite and so courteous; everyone worked well as a team and the overall cleanliness was great. Their location was convenient for me too.

They provided excellent care, attention and even gave me some earphones to listen to music. While the dentist was working, he was also chatting with the nurse and this distracted me from what was going on (it was much better than working in unnerving silence). All of these things helped to me put me at ease.

Treatment Received: Sedation for dental treatments
I can not express how good this clinic is. I am a very nervous patient but was made to feel totally at ease on each visit. All my questions, no matter how daft, were answered. I opted to have sedation and would recommend this for anyone as nervous as me. Conor and his team are the best and I wouldn't even consider going anywhere else.

I cannot recommend this clinic enough. I was a nervous patient, and my teeth were in a very bad state when I arrived. I have no idea why I did not do this sooner!. Dr Conor Irwin and his assistant Hannah were just so relaxing and professional and made me feel that I would be able to eat foods and smile again. I was sedated twice and have 10 fillings and two extractions, pain free...and anxiety free....It was amazing!!.
I just can't thank them enough.....or encourage you to phone them and make that appointment.

""I'm definately coming back here""

Treatment Received: Fillings,Root Canals,Teeth Cleaning
fillings, root canal, cleaning

Due to an unpleasant experience as a child even in my 30s I have a deep rooted (excuse the pun!) fear of visiting the dentist. So when I began to get a constant throbbing pain in my teeth as much as I tried to put off visiting the dentist eventually the unbearable pain meant I had no choice.
I went to my local dentist and they told me I needed a root canal treatment. I just told them that I wanted to be out of pain so they gave me a course of antibiotics and I never went back. When the pain came back again, my girlfriend began looking up dentists who specialise in treating nervous patients. She found the Ratoath Dental Centre website and made an appointment for me straight away. The evening of the appointment I did feel a bit embarrassed, a grown man sweating at the thoughts of being in the dentist but as I went into the surgery and was introduce to Dr Conor Irwin he stood up and shook my hand and talked me through why I was here. What really struck me about him was that he actaully LISTENED to me and UNDERSTOOD how nervous I was. All we did on the first appointment was talk and come up with a way to treat all the problems I had as a result of my fear. He went through what sedation was, the cost and everything involved in my treatment. I left that dental practice and for the first time i felt myself thinking, "I'm definately coming back here"
Now because I was so bad with dentists I did need two appointments but it was well worth the €160 I paid each time. That stuff was amazing!!!! All I remember is going into the surgery then being told it was over and my girlfriend bringing me home. I was at work the next day not a bother on me.
I now trust Dr Conor Irwin and will definately be going for my 6 monthly check up with him in future. Thank you so much!!

"My new best friends"
5 50Reviewed 02 Sep 2011 We were unable to verify the reviewer.
Treatment Received: Dentist Consultation
I could not speak more highly of the Ratoath Dental Centre or its staff. I am extremely anxious about the dentist, and the staff were incredibly patient and understanding. They did everything they could to make the experience as easy as possible. During the consult I was allowed to sit on the sofa instead of in the dental chair while they spoke to me. I had IV sedation but very bad veins, so the dentist took almost an hour to just get an IV started. They even went as far as to use a numbing solution on my arms so I didn't feel the IV line going in. On top of all that, Dr. Irwin went above and beyond to save my tooth knowing how important it was to me not to have it pulled. The work itself was fabulous as well, I didn't have to take even a Paracetamol tablet afterwards and the tooth feels great. A big huge thank you to Dr Irwin and all the others at the dental clinic - my new best friends!

Dental Bridges

Per Unit

A dental bridge spans the gap and replaces the missing teeth with carefully fabricated porcelain crowns which are fixed in place by attaching to the teeth on either side of the gap. Bridges are ideal for people who don’t like dentures or only have one or two teeth missing. Bridges are usually made of precious metal bonded to porcelain but with new stronger porcelains available, all porcelain bridges are now an option.

Dental Crowns

How much does a crown cost?  From € 550 depending on the material used. This is tax allowable.

A crown is a protective outer shell or cover that fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth, making it strong and giving it the shape of a natural tooth. A crown (sometimes known as a cap) is used where teeth are badly decayed or broken, or where a tooth is very heavily filled and may lack strength. The tooth is prepared, any decay removed and restored and an impression is then taken. A dental technician then precisely fabricates a crown to fit snugly over the prepared tooth.

Full Dentures are made of an acrylic resin material and the close fit and comfort is complimented by the quality of natural looking teeth. We can offer a range of teeth to choose from but we prefer to use the best quality available. We usually require four visits over eight weeks to make a set of complete dentures. Partial dentures are false teeth which close the gaps between remaining teeth to restore a full smile and improve your bite. They are usually made of an acrylic resin and where required a metal clasp can help to position and hold them in place.

IV Sedation

) in the treatment of nervous patients

Intravenous Sedation is the ‘state of the art’ technique for the complete control of anxiety in dentistry. A sedative drug is used to induce a hypnotic, semi-conscious state and is the method of choice for the treatment of very nervous patients. IV sedation is not a general anaesthetic, but is a safe, more controlled alternative.

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are thin slices of porcelain. These are precisely made to fit over the visible surface of front teeth, like a false fingernail fits over a nail. Veneers are an ideal way of treating discoloured or unsightly teeth, closing gaps between front teeth, or repairing chips and cracks. To make a veneer, a small amount of enamel is removed from the front of the tooth (usually less than 1mm ).  An impression is taken and sent to a dental technician for the veneer to be made in the laboratory. The veneer is then bonded permanently to the tooth and the procedure is complete.
