What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure where localized fat is broken up and sucked out of the body.  Liposuction is performed by making small incisions in the body in order to insert a thin tube, or cannula, through the incision into localized fat deposits between the skin and muscle of the patient. A suction pump or syringe is then used to suck out localized fat deposits.

What is the recovery time after Liposuction?

Recovery time after liposuction is usually one to two weeks, depending on the area of the body and the amount of localized fat sucked out.  You will see the end results of Liposuction within one to four months after the procedure.

Is Liposuction Painful?

Liposuction is painful but most surgeons perform the procedure under general anaesthesia to ensure that patients don’t feel pain. They also prescribe painkillers for relieving pain after surgery.

Is Liposuction Permanent?

The liposuction procedure permanently removes localized fat. The patient’s body will retain its contour after liposuction, provided the patient does not gain weight.

What is Non-Surgical Liposuction?

Liposuction procedures that do not use injections or incisions are called non-surgical liposuction procedures. These procedures are performed using laser energy, ultrasound, cryotherapy or radiofrequency.

Liposuction Recovery Tips?

Following the doctor’s post-procedure instructions helps patients to recover quickly and effectively after a liposuction procedure. These will include taking sufficient rest, taking prescribed anti-biotics and pain-killers and wearing compression garments correctly. The patient should also start moving as soon as possible to prevent blood clots but should avoid strenuous activities for at least a month.

Dr Darryl J Hodgkinson - Plastic Surgery Clinic in AustraliaFeatured

Dr Darryl J Hodgkinson

(02) 8766 0508 The Cosmetic & Restorative Surgery Clinic, 20 Manning Road, Double Bay, 2028
Rating from 48 Reviews He has been an amazing doctor, I could not be happier with my surgery and resultsDonna_W, Australia, 11 01 18

I have been to Dr. Hodgkinson a few times now 15 years ago and this last year I had breast augmentation and liposuction on thighs and knees. He has been an amazing doctor, I could not be happier with my surgery and results. The staff have also been very good.

Liposuction
Liposuction/Liposculpture body sculpting (suction-assisted lipectomy, ultrasonic assisted liposculpture) is one of themost common cosmetic surgery procedures performed today. Proven safety, minimal scarring and outstanding results have made the various liposuction techniques the preferred method for removing fat from the hips, thighs, buttocks and midriff, as well as areas of the face, neck and arms. Dr. Darryl Hodgkinson as a leader in liposuction Sydney cautions his patients that liposuction is not an alternative to weight reduction, but can be very effective in removing fat from areas that do not respond to diet and exercise programs. Liposuction is commonly used to remove stubborn, diet-and exercise-resistant fat deposits and to sculpt the body into a slimmer profile. For many of Dr. Hodgkinson’s patients, resistant fat deposits may be a genetic/inherited problem.
Tummy Tuck
Body Cosmetic Plastic Surgery can perhaps best be understood by using simile that it is like sculpture. Many people think of cosmetic plastic surgery to the body solely as the removal of tissue: fat through liposuction, excess skin and bulk through a tummy tuck, etc. There are, however, 2 ways of looking at the human form. To reveal the best possible shape, there are areas of excess: bits that should be removed as in liposuction and areas of deficit: bits that should be added as in body or breast implant surgery.

Hunter Plastic Surgery - Dr Nicholas Moncrieff - Plastic Surgeon specialising in breast and body surgery

Hunter Plastic Surgery

Suite 8, 3 Hopetoun St, Charlestown, Level 2, Newcastle, 2290
Rating from 21 Reviews I'm back in clothes I haven't worn since before the kidsJade, Australia, 19 06 19

6-week update: Dr Moncrieff really does perform #MoncrieffMagic! I'm now 6 weeks post my tummy tuck and just love the results so much! After two babies I was left with a terrible muscle separation and excess skin. In fact, Dr Moncrieff said my muscles separation was almost the largest he had seen. It meant I had a permanent bulge - to the point that other people would ask if I was expecting again. There was nothing I could do - diet and exercise made no difference! I did my research and loved that Dr Moncrieff has so many happy patients who are happy for him to share theirs before and after photos. I'm on the Central Coast and looked locally, in Sydney and in Newcastle but seeing lots of real results on real women was important to me and Dr Moncrieff's results are everywhere. He isn't the cheapest but I feel like you get what you pay for. He clearly spends time doing the extra liposuction and really sculpting the waist. When I came to meet him I just knew I'd made the right choice. He is such a lovely, friendly man. He is supported by a beautiful team of women who really care. From his wife Amber to Practice Manager Jessica and Nurse Leecy - you know you are in great hands. And yes, the surgery is full-on and you need support around you to manage family (especially if you have young children), but the results make it all worth it. I'm back in clothes I haven't worn since before the kids. My back isn't as sore and I feel like being active is a lot easier. Thanks, Dr Moncrieff - thanks to you I will be rocking a bikini once the warm weather hits this year!

Zeltiq CoolSculpting™ from $680
The cost of CoolSculpting is substantially lower than having the same volume and area treated with surgical procedures such as liposuction. For example, to treat 4 areas on the tummy and love handles, the cost is $3230, whereas the cost of liposuction in the same areas would be approximately $6500.

Avery Plastic Surgery - Dr Gary Avery

Avery Plastic Surgery

31-33 Watt Street, Newcastle, 2300
Rating from 5 Reviews I was given all the information up front and supported by the doctor and his teamSimone, Australia, 27 03 18

I had a breast reduction and a tummy tuck. Dr. Avery is amazing. I was given all the information up front and supported by Dr. Avery and his team pre and post surgery. I couldn’t be happier. I recommend him to anybody choosing to go down the surgery path.

Liposuction $5000 - $18000
Liposuction is a procedure designed to remove unwanted fat deposits, which are resistant to both dieting and exercise. This procedure is not a weight loss procedure, but a body contouring procedure. An ideal candidate for liposuction is relatively fit, has firm skin, good muscle tone, and is within 30% of their ideal weight. It does not help with stretch marks or cellulite, but it removes the bulk of fat which highlight these two concerns. Time off depends on how you are healing. Swelling is the main factor following liposuction, as is bruising and weeping from the “stab” wounds. Sitting on an area which has had liposuction will delay the healing and hence we would recommend at least two weeks off work resting. Lifting, pulling and pushing is not a concern with liposuction on the lower body, however, as our bodies tend to gather fluid in the lower half of our legs, this will increase significantly and require rest and elevation. Post operatively, you will require a weekly appointment for the first three-four weeks and you will require someone to drive you to the first two. Liposuction is generally a day procedure with patients returning home that evening and wearing a compression garment for six weeks.
Tummy Tuck $9900 - $18000
The abdominoplasty procedure is undertaken at Lingard Private Hospital and our patients remain as an inpatient for 5-7 nights depending on Dr Avery’s recommendations.  We advise patients that they will require at least four weeks off work following this procedure, are unable to drive for this time and are required to attend our rooms weekly for at least six weeks. Patients heal differently, but it is a large procedure – approximately 4 hours in theatre – and the anaesthetic alone will make you feel tired for at least 2-3 weeks – we would prefer patients to commit to at least four weeks of resting following the procedure. You will be required to wear a compression garment for six weeks to help reduce swelling and to support the suture line.
