Lymphoedema and Laser Therapy

She began full time employment initially at the Royal Adelaide Hospital moving over the next 22 years into private practice returning to a senior position in the public sector.

1989 saw the beginnings of an interest in, leading to a continuous full time commitment to, lymphoedema.

A participant of the first Lymphoedema course in Australia conducted by John & Judith Casely-Smith in January 1991 brought the rewards of private practice and the assistance in training other therapists in New Zealand, Long Island NY, Singapore, Hong Kong and Abu Dhabi.

The opportunity to work at the Lymphoedema Assessment Clinic at Flinders Medical Centre with Professor Neil Piller, in 1995 saw the development, with Ann Thelander of the combination treatment of low level laser therapy and lymphatic massage.

During this time, she worked as the Senior Physiotherapist in outpatients at the Royal Darwin Hospital, and then began working in a Private Practice. She also took up a position as Senior Tutor in Anatomy and Physiotherapy at the Darwin University.

She worked in a general Private Practice until 2001, at which time she joined the Lymphoedema and Laser Therapy clinic. She became a Practice Principal in 2008, and completed her Level 1 Lymphoedema Management Certificate in 2007.She is a registered member of The National Lymphoedema Practitioners Register.

She began her interest in Laser Therapy in 1989, and has published work and presented to various professional groups in this area.

Has a particular interest in the early detection and intervention process in lymphoedema management in order to maximise outcome potential for clients.

Worked at Sydney Hospital for two years then briefly at the Royal Adelaide Hospital Hampstead Rehabilitation Centre before working at Broken Hill District Hospital until 1987.

After travelling to Victoria she took a physiotherapy post at Mt Alvernia Hospital in Bendigo in 1991.

She has completed Level 1 and 2 Certificates in Lymphoedema Management, and joined the team at Lymphoedema and Laser Therapy in 2007.

Has a particular interest in the areas of manual lymphatic drainage and the fitting of compression garments.

Is a member of the Australasian Lymphology Association and is also registered with the National Lymphoedema Practitioner Register (NLPR).
