MBBS FRANZCO FRACS. Associate Professor Lawrence Lee is a vitreo-retinal specialist and director of City Eye Centre. Dr Lee has over 15 years of experience and specialises in medical and surgical retinal diseases, with particular interests in the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy and eye trauma. Dr Lee also has expertise in managing complex cataract surgery, macular hole and epiretinal membrane. In addition to vitreoretinal surgery, Dr Lee has a keen interest in digital ophthalmic imaging utilizing the latest equipment in wide field fluorescein angiography, autofluorescence, and ICG angiography. He undertook his ophthalmology training in Brisbane and completed a Retinal Fellowship at the Sydney Eye Hospital. He was awarded the Royal Australian College of Ophthalmologists / Alcon Fellowship to pursue further retinal training with the eminent Professor J. Donald M. Gass at the Ophthalmology Department of the Vanderbilt University Nashville, Tennessee USA. He later worked at the prestigious Moorfields Eye Hospital in London where he managed complex retinal disorders and vitreoretinal surgery. He returned to Brisbane and established City Eye Centre in 2001 and now also runs an outreach vitreoretinal clinic in Cairns, North Queensland. He is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and past Director of the Department of Ophthalmology at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and the Royal Children’s Hospital. He also holds an academic position as an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Queensland. He was a past Director of Queensland Eye Hospital, one of the largest Ophthalmic Day Hospitals in Australia. Dr Lee is involved extensively with the teaching of undergraduate medical students, optometrists, and ophthalmology trainee registrars. Dr Lee is a frequent invited speaker at international retinal conferences and his published work includes over 150 journal articles and conference papers.

MD MBBS FRANZCO. He completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 1991 at the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia, a Master of Medical Science in Ophthalmology in 1994 and Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmology in 2000. He returned from the United Kingdom in 2001 completing a Glaucoma Fellowship at Birmingham and Midlands Eye Centre and a Cataract, Cornea and Refractive Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. His specialties include cataract phacoemulsification techniques, corneal grafting, excimer Laser for refractive and therapeutic purposes and advanced management of primary and complex glaucoma. His awards received include the World Glaucoma Association Film Festival 2013, Australian Cataract and Refractive film Festival 2001, 2005, Alcon/RACO Travelling Scholarship 2001, Eyetech Day Surgery Award 1999 and Pharmacia and Upjohn RACO Award 1998. In 2005, Dr Lee was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Queensland for his published works on anterior segment disease. He holds the academic title of Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Queensland. He has a keen interest in teaching and research, having more than 200 peer-reviewed published scientific articles, book chapters and abstracts at national and international meetings. His invited lectures have taken him to the United Kingdom, Canada, Thailand, Korea, Cambodia and Nepal.

MBBS FRANZCO. He completed his specialist ophthalmology training in Queensland, with the majority at the Royal Brisbane and Womens’ Hospital. He underwent further specialist training at Southampton Hospital, and Portsmouth Hospital, United Kingdom in strabismus and medical retina in 1998. He commenced his practice in Northern NSW in 1999 and has started private and public practice in Queensland since 2012. Nonmetropolitan practice has enabled him to gain a broad experience and considerable expertise in the management of all ophthalmological conditions, including surgery of cataract, glaucoma, lid and lacrimal disease, and the medical management of retinal eye diseases. For over 10 years, Dr Aboud has worked along with other specialist ophthalmologist colleagues, in providing a year-round after-hours service to the Northern NSW Local Health Network (NLHN). He has also maintained a constant commitment to registrar training since 2000 in co-operation with the Sydney Eye Hospital Registrar training scheme and the Queensland Registrar training scheme. Dr Aboud also employs innovative modern information technology including DVD recording of surgical cases and peer-review in order to meet the conditions of quality management in his practice.
