He is a consultant dermatologist and Mohs surgeon. He specialises in the assessment and treatment of all skin conditions, and has additional specialised training in Mohs micrographic surgery, for the precise excision and reconstruction of skin cancers. He strives for the best individualised treatment plan for you, and believes the time taken to explain the condition and its treatment options, is as important as the treatment itself. He will advise against surgery, or suggest a more conservative option, if this is in your best interests. He also performs general skin and laser surgery for both skin cancer and non-cancerous conditions of the skin and nails. He offers skin assessment, and tailored practical advice on the prevention and treatment of precancerous sun damage, and early or superficial skin cancer including non-surgical options. He completed his basic medical training at the University of Auckland School of Medicine. A number of years working in both internal medicine and sub-speciality medicine culminated in fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. His specialist dermatology training was completed in Auckland and the United Kingdom. He then undertook an American College of Mohs Surgery (ACMS) fellowship at Oxford Day Surgery in Perth, Western Australia. He was also awarded fellowship of the Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD). He is the only Mohs surgeon accredited by the ACD, and one of only three ACMS accredited surgeons, in Auckland. His experience in Mohs surgery spans more than 2400 cases. He worked in private and public dermatology practice in Australia prior to returning to New Zealand in January 2012. He is a fellow of the New Zealand Dermatological Society (NZDS), and an affiliated provider to Southern Cross Health Society. He has presented and published numerous medical papers and has wide experience in clinical teaching. He is also a reviewer for an international peer-reviewed dermatology medical journal. His current active research interest is in the prediction and prevention of surgical site infection, with the aim of improving patient outcomes while minimising oral antibiotic use. He has a special interest in the use of a range of established intra-operative and post-operative techniques aimed at optimal surgical scar appearance. He also utilises a number of specific additional techniques to improve the delivery of local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort.

He developed specialist knowledge and skill in skin cancer surgery including Mohs surgery, and in the emerging field of lasers in dermatology during his time overseas. This led him to establish, in 1993, the Auckland Skin Laser Centre, a facility designed to provide patients with expert skin care utilising modern laser techniques, some of which Dr Le Grice first introduced in New Zealand. Since that time, he and his specialist laser technician and nursing staff have striven to continue to provide the most modern and comprehensive laser skin care facility available in New Zealand, for a wide range of skin conditions; medical, surgical and cosmetic in nature. He undertook his medical training at Auckland University, followed by some time in general practice in Nelson. He then returned to Auckland to train in general medicine and dermatology, after which he undertook further specialist training in Glasgow, London and New York. He undertook his medical school training in Auckland. Following two years in Dunedin he returned to Auckland to complete his physician training and then achieve initial training in dermatology. From here he moved to complete advanced dermatology training, and a Dermatopathology Fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA and then St John’s Hospital for Diseases of the Skin in London, UK. On returning to New Zealand he commenced work in private practice and in the public sector for the ADHB. His role has involved dermatology consultation, dermatological surgery and Mohs surgery in both sectors. He has also provided dermatopathology consultation at Labplus, and previously in private laboratories. He has previously been Chair of the Specialist Advisory Committee for Dermatology, President of the Australasian Dermatopathology Society and Clinical Director of Dermatology at the ADHB.
