Dr. Fung graduated with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Otago in 1998. She worked for a group practice in Wellington where her family lived, before moving to Auckland. Phyllis has been with Smile Dental since she moved to Auckland in 2000 and enjoys the long term relationship which she has built with many patients, many of which went from “hating the dentists” to calling Phyllis their “friend”. Phyllis enjoys meeting new people and making them feel relaxed and comfortable at the dentist. She has seen many of her patients regain their engaging smile and self-confidence after treatment, and finds this extremely rewarding. She was awarded the Fellowship of the International College of Continuing Dental Education in 2011. Outside work Phyllis enjoys reading (dental and non-dental related!), playing drums and the organ, and skiing. She also tries to stay fit with swimming.

My first university qualification was a degree in neuropsychology, which I completed with first class honours from the University of Auckland. I then completed my Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree with distinction from the University of Otago. Several of my summer holiday periods were spent carrying out research, funded by four summer research scholarships. From these I have been able to publish two journal articles which in turn enabled me to receive the New Zealand Dental Research Foundation prize upon my year of graduation. All aspects of dentistry interest me, from restorative to cosmetic work, and I am able to carry out all procedures ambidextrously. I am committed to ensuring my patients receive excellent and personalised care. I am passionate about health and keeping in shape. This is achieved through running and playing sports, with a major focus on volleyball.
