Breast Implants

Breast Augmentation
The scar for breast augmentation can be placed either in the underarm, under the breast itself, or at the lower border of the areolus (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple). Many patients, when given the option, prefer an underarm scar because it removes all scarring, and anxiety relating to scarring, from the breast. Dr. Rapaport performs this procedure using an endoscope. This means that instead of bluntly tearing the lower border of the muscle, and risking implant malposition due to incomplete muscle division, the muscle is precisely divided under magnified endoscopic visualization, allowing for control of any bleeding and precise implant positioning.

Facelift
In terms of the surgery itself, the Manhattan, New York Board Certified Plastic Surgeon employs techniques which minimize the risk of complications to skin and muscle. The surgeon emphasizes that facelift surgery is elective surgery which should not risk nerve, muscle, or skin damage. As alluded to earlier, Dr. Rapaport takes a very individualized approach in planning and carrying out his facelift procedures. In general, Dr. Rapaport performs a two-layer lift, generally referred to as a SMAS facelift. The SMAS refers to the Superficial Musculo-Aponeurotic System. This is essentially the connective tissue which surrounds the muscles of the face and becomes lax over time. It is widely believed that addressing the SMAS at the time of the facelift produces both a more natural and longer lasting result. Dr. Rapaport may address the SMAS by moving it appropriately as a flap of tissue, or by performing what is called a SMASectomy, which involves the removal of the loosest portion of the SMAS. In either case, the skin is re-draped over the restored SMAS and closed with utmost care to produce the best scarring possible.

Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is cosmetic surgery of the nose. It is also known as nasal refinement or a "nose job". With rhinoplasty surgery, imperfections from either birth or trauma can be corrected by breaking the bones of the nose and re-setting them narrower and straighter. Outfracture is when the bones are broken and moved out to widen the nose.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)
Generally, a horizontal incision is placed just within or above the pubic area. The length of the incision, which extends toward the pelvic bones, depends largely on the amount of skin to be removed. The contour of this incision will vary somewhat according to the structure of your abdomen. Dr. Rapaport will try to keep the incision within your bathing suit lines, but this may not always be possible. Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, David P. Rapaport often asks his patients to bring in a bikini bottom or panty they prefer (to his Manhattan, New York surgical center) the day of their abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) so that he can be able to design his incision to fall underneath the garment. Some patients have loose skin above the navel. In such cases, the surgeon may make a second incision around the navel so that the redundant skin above it can be pulled down. The excess abdominal skin is then removed. The position of the navel remains unchanged.
