The two most common ways to perform breast augmentation surgery is either via an incision under the breast (inframammary) or one at the bottom of the areola (periareolar). Implants can be placed through the armpit or belly button as well, but with more limitations related to implant size, implant type, and control of the implant’s final location. These incisions also cannot be incorporated into the same scars that result from breast lift procedures. The inframammary approach (IM) uses an incision at the inferior fold of the breast and is well hidden under the breast mound. It enables the surgeon good control and flexibility with implant pocket creation and device placement of all sizes.

When indicated, this surgery can also repair or narrow the gap between the abdominal muscles, which can develop from pregnancy.
