The breast implant is placed either under your breast tissue (subglandular position) or under your pectoralis muscle (submuscular position), which is the major muscle that lies beneath the breast. The incision is made as inconspicuously as possible, either in the breast fold, under the arm, or around the nipple (periareolar). Dr. Lee will guide you in which incision method is best for you. (Read more about incision sites.) Dr. Lee places the implant into the breast using a Keller Funnel to minimize any risk of infection, stress on the implant shell and to reduce the incision length.

Facelift

A facelift can take three to six hours depending on which components of the face require correction. The exact placement of incisions and the sequence of events will be outlined by Dr. Lee. Incisions usually begin inside your sideburns, extend inside your ear (just inside the cartilage at the front of your ear), and continue behind the earlobe in the crease behind the ear. Dr. Lee then separates the skin from the underlying fat and muscle. Fat may be trimmed or suctioned from around the neck and chin to improve the contour. The underlying muscles are then tightened and the skin is pulled back, with the excess skin removed. Stitches secure the layers of tissue and close the incisions.

Rhinoplasty typically takes about 1½ to 2 hours, though more complicated procedures may take longer. During surgery, the skin of the nose is separated from its supporting framework of bone and cartilage which is then sculpted into the desired shape. The ultimate appearance of your nose is affected by factors such as skin thickness and structure of your cartilage and bones. Rhinoplasty can be performed as an “open technique” in which there is a small skin incision made to access the underlying structures, or a “closed” approach in which the incision is made inside the nostril. A splint will be applied to help your nose maintain its new shape. Nasal packs or soft plastic splints may also be placed in your nostrils to stabilize the septum, the dividing wall between the air passages.

Abdominoplasty (Tummy tuck)

An abdominoplasty typically takes two and a half hours. Generally, Dr. Lee will make an incision hidden in the bikini line. A second incision is made to free the navel from surrounding tissue. Stretch marks of the lower abdomen can also be removed with this procedure. The skin is separated from the abdominal wall all the way up to the ribs to reveal the vertical (rectus abdominis) muscles in your abdomen. These muscles are tightened by pulling them close together and stitching them into their new position. This provides a firmer abdominal wall and narrows the waistline. The skin flap is then stretched down and the extra skin is removed. The navel is brought out through a new incision in the abdominal skin. Finally, the incisions will be stitched, dressings will be applied, and a temporary tube may be inserted to drain excess fluid from the surgical site.

She began her nursing career at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla where she worked for a year before returning to the University of San Diego to further her education. Stefanie completed her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2005 followed by her Masters Degree in Nurse Practitioning in 2006. Stefanie did not stop there, however. Six months after receiving her graduate degree, Stefanie completed the esthetician program at Poway Academy, receiving her esthetician’s license. Stefanie joined the staff of Changes Plastic Surgery & Spa in January 2007. Working closely with Dr. Gilbert Lee, she not only provided esthetician services, but also learned the artistry and precision of dermal fillers and a variety of laser treatments (FX, Fraxel, IPL, KTP).
