Love this place!

5 50 Acupuncturist Consultation

Been here on many occasions and each time I have had a great experience. Suffering from back pain I went and saw an Acupuncturist and also an Osteopath, both with great results. Then to keep my back healthy (and to relax) I saw a Massage Therapist who I'm pretty sure gives the best massages around. Love this place!

Cranial Osteopathy

Cranial Osteopathy - Marlborough House Therapy Centre

Although osteopaths treat many conditions, most people think of us as relieving back pain. However, our approach is holistic, and we believe that your entire body will work more harmoniously if you maintain its natural balance. Like a car, if a part is worn its overall performance will suffer, and it may eventually break down. The inevitable result for your body is wear and tear, and consequent pain.

The British Medical Association’s guidance for general practitioners states that doctors can safely refer patients to osteopaths.

What to expect

We use a wide range of techniques, including touch, physical manipulation, and massage. These help to increase the suppleness and mobility of your joints, to relieve muscle tension and pain, and to encourage your body’s own healing powers.

Who and what we treat

We can treat people of all ages, from the newborn to the elderly. Our therapies are gentle and we regularly treat children and pregnant women.

Some of the most common complaints we see at Marlborough House are back and neck pain, trapped nerves and sciatica, muscle tension and headaches, trauma from falls, and injuries from sports or car accidents.

Cranial osteopathy is a particularly gentle therapy. It can be helpful for people of any age, but especially useful for babies and children and the many ailments that trouble them. Remember – you are welcome to make a free 20-minute appointment with us for a back check and to discuss your concerns.
Please note: we highly recommend that babies’ and children’s ailments are reported and discussed with your GP to ensure your children have the very best possible care.

General Practice

Allergy Specialist Consultation

Nutritional Counselling

We use several methods to test for food intolerances – none of which use chemicals or invasive technology. All of our methods of allergy relief can safely be used alongside conventional medicine.

What to expect

First we talk to you. We ask you a wide range of questions about your lifestyle, diet, likes and dislikes, and medical history. Unlike many other forms of allergy treatment, we concentrate more on strengthening and supporting your system to cope with identified substances and the environment, rather than completely eliminating and depriving you of the foods you may need.

Who and what we treat

Digestive problems or lack of energy

You may be experiencing symptoms such as respiratory, digestive or skin problems. You may be constantly tired, or have joint or muscle pain or headaches. You may be suffering from hyperactivity, poor concentration, or lack of confidence.

We identify your key sensitivities, balance your nutritional intake, and work with you at restoring good health.

Safe and gentle, allergy testing is suitable for everyone, whether they are young or old.

Please note that if you have a serious health issue or concern, do also consult your GP as certain allergies can be life threatening.

Stress Management

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a powerful therapy that treats you holistically as an individual. EFT helps free you from negative emotions that have a direct effect on your health and well-being and can block your natural flow of bodily energy. EFT offers you a release from stress-related conditions, restoring your natural bodily and mental balance.

No needles are involved. With his or her fingertips your EFT practitioner simply taps a sequence of points on your body.

What to expect

Your EFT practitioner will ask you to think very clearly about your problem. As you are thinking about it, they will ask you to measure its intensity on scale of 1 to 10. Your practitioner will then tap a sequence of points on your body until you feel that the intensity of your emotions has come down to zero.

The negative energy that has been disturbing you is dispelled and your feelings of distress diminish. You may find yourself yawning, laughing, or crying – all these are very common reactions, and signs that the negative energy is being released. Afterwards, youll still remember your problem, but no negative emotion will be attached to it. The effect is often felt within minutes.

Your session finishes with useful tips and techniques you can use at home in case your problem re-occurs.

What it treats

You may be suffering the effects of a relationship that has gone sour, or a trauma or loss. Possibly you’ve problems at work and you’re feeling stress or depression.

Among other conditions, clients have reported benefits in pain management, addictions, allergies, and weight loss. It can also help in the relief of headaches, anxiety and depression, and digestive disorders.

At the emotional level it calms your spirit, helps you relax, and relieves stress.

What to expect

All our treatments involve lying on a massage table with your head supported on a comfy pillow. We use only natural oils. Most people find the therapy very pleasurable. Please be assured that your privacy and dignity will be maintained at all times.

Who and what we treat

At Marlborough House we regularly treat patients suffering from a wide variety of debilitating conditions, including eye strain, tension headaches and migraines, neck, shoulder and back pain, tinnitus, and jaw and sinus problems. Hot Stone Massage

Hot Stone Massage - Marlborough House Therapy Centre

Hot stone massage is relaxing deep massage treatment. It has been used since time immemorial, and has its roots in Indian culture. Hot smooth stones are placed at various points on your body from your head down to your toes.

The heat from the stones is warm, comforting and highly therapeutic, and penetrates deep into your muscles. Hot stone massage relaxes your nervous system, improves circulation, and helps eliminate toxins and waste from your body.

What to expect

First a soothing and pleasing blend of aromatherapy oils will be applied to your body. You then lie back and enjoy an initial massage during which the therapist will use his or her hands to transfer heat from the stones to your body. The stones themselves are then positioned along your back and spine, and on your face, neck, shoulders, arms, hands, legs, and feet.

What it treats

Hot stone massage revitalizes and rejuvenates. It helps reduce stress, and can aid in the relief of mental and physical fatigue. Clients have reported that it has helped accelerate the healing process, and relieved pain in muscles and joints.

Indian Head Massage

In Indian head massage the therapist concentrates on massaging your head, neck and shoulders. This profoundly enjoyable and relaxing massage technique helps promote health and well-being. It stimulates nerve endings, improves blood supply to the scalp and can encourage hair growth.

What to expect

You sit fully clothed in a comfortable chair. Indian head massage is wonderfully relaxing, and at the end of your session you should feel an enhanced sense of well-being. One of the many benefits of Indian head massage is that it helps draw out poisonous toxins from your body. You may, therefore, feel a shade under the weather for a day or so after your session as your body gradually regains its natural balance.

What it treats

Indian head massage encourages a healthy, well-conditioned scalp, and can promote hair growth and slow down hair loss. It helps stimulate blood and lympathic flow to the head, neck and shoulders, improving circulation and reviving the body’s natural immunity. Clients have reported that it has helped to relieve muscular tension and pain, and reduced stress and tension-related conditions such as headaches, neck discomfort, and eye strain.

Acupuncture

Acupuncturist Consultation

Acupuncturist Consultation - Marlborough House Therapy Centre

Your physical and emotional health depend on natural energy in your body moving in a smooth and harmonious way through channels under the skin. When this flow is unbalanced, your health and well-being can suffer. Acupuncture can stimulate energy and restore your natural balance.

This ancient system of healing is recognised by the World Health Organisation as being effective in the relief of a wide variety of conditions. The British Medical Journal has confirmed that it is a safe, gentle form of treatment.

Acupuncture is holistic in its approach to the management of disease and the maintenance of health. It focuses on improving your overall well-being rather than just treating isolated symptoms.

What to expect

We insert very fine needles into the energy channels in your body. The aim is to stimulate your body’s own healing powers and restore its natural balance. Rest assured that the needles bear little resemblance to those used for injections! They are much finer, and all you’ll feel is a faint tingling.

You may need 4 to 6 weekly treatments for you to feel the benefits.

Who and what we treat

You may have responded poorly to conventional medicine. You may be worried about the side effects of drugs, or feeling it’s time to try a natural treatment.

We regularly see people suffering from anxiety, migraines, arthritis, asthma, hay fever, high blood pressure, circulatory problems, digestive disorders, skin conditions, sports injuries, infertility and menstrual problems, and morning sickness.

CST - Craniosacral Therapy

CST - Craniosacral Therapy - Marlborough House Therapy Centre

CST is a hands-on therapy that evolved out of osteopathy. It is a whole body treatment, and relies on the skill of the practitioner to work with the natural resources in your body, including your spine, muscles, organs and nervous system. Cranial practitioners use touch to tune in to the subtlest body rhythm. These rhythms include the fluctuation of cerebrospinal fluid, which bathes and nourishes the central nervous system. Using CST, this fluctuation can be encouraged and harmonised. As a result, areas of pain, tension and congestion are released, and your body begins to function more efficiently and naturally.

What to expect

As a first step we take your full health history, including details of your lifestyle. You lie fully clothed on the treatment couch and we use light physical touch to tune in to different parts of your body. Most people enjoy their sessions, and you should feel a deep sense of relaxation. You may also become aware of subtle bodily sensations such as heat, tingling and pulsations. Your session should leave you feeling much better, and the changes in your mind, body and spirit can be long-lasting.

Who and what we treat

CST is so gentle that it is suitable for babies, children and the elderly as well as adults.

A baby may become emotionally distressed during birth, and pressure on the soft, pliable skull can create strain on tissues, blood vessels and nerves. Common problems like colic, difficulty in feeding, restlessness or behavioural struggles can be the result. CST can be of tremendous benefit to your child or baby, setting him or her on the path to a healthy and fulfilling future. Many mothers bring their babies to us even after a relatively easy birth.

CST can help alleviate many problems for adults too. It c

Reflexology

Reflexologists work with reflex points in our feet and hands corresponding to the organs and parts of our bodies. By stimulating these reflex points reflexologists can help relieve many conditions. A safe and gentle complementary therapy, reflexology is a popular, natural treatment for maintaining bodily well-being.

What to expect

First we’ll ask you about your health, your medical history and lifestyle, so that we can tailor a treatment specifically for you. You do not have to take off your clothes, only your socks or tights and shoes. We’ll ask you to lie down on a treatment bed.

Your session starts with some relaxation exercises. Then we use a number of gentle massage and pressure techniques to relax and loosen the muscles in your feet. During the session you can close your eyes and relax, or we are always pleased to chat. In general, you should find the session pleasant and soothing (but once or twice you may feel a very slight discomfort – this is normally an indication of an imbalance in the corresponding part of your body). Your tensions will be eased, and your circulation improved. This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself.

Who and what we treat

At Marlborough House we treat a wide range of conditions. Patients tell us that a session leaves them feeling relaxed, alive and walking on air!

Reiki

Reiki is a non-invasive, soothing and nurturing healing treatment from Japan. Both powerful and gentle, it relieves stress and encourages relaxation, helping to restore the vital energy we lose in daily life.

The reiki practitioner gently places his or her hands in a sequence of positions covering your whole body. The therapy is simple but highly beneficial, and you can learn to practise it on yourself or on members of your family.

The Reiki Association says: ‘As running water smoothes the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away, reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the bodys natural ability to heal itself. Reiki restores balance in ones life.’

What to expect

First we’ll ask you about yourself and what is troubling you. And we’ll explain what will happen during your session.

It could not be more simple. You lie fully clothed on the treatment couch. Your reiki practitioner places his or her hands in a subtle pattern of positions on your head and the front and back of your torso. Rest assured that the placement of the hands will never be intrusive. Throughout your session your reiki practitioner will be stimulating the flow of energy through your body and directing it to the parts that are most in need of it.

At the end of your session you should feel refreshed and relaxed. Some people feel immediate benefits, and with others the effects are felt progressively more deeply as they continue their treatment.

Who and what we treat

We use reiki to dispel tension and stress in patients. It may also be effective in relieving pain. If you lack self-confidence, or if your creativity is blocked, reiki could well be of benefit to you.

At Marlborough House we offer a one-day course for small groups wishing to learn reiki as a self-healing tool.

Daniel Hayward

Job Title:
  Practice Therapist
Specialisations:
  Osteopathy
Biography:
Daniel Hayward is an Osteopath and Cranial Osteopath.  He is fully registered with the General Osteopathic Council, has been practicing for eight years and has a wealth of experience in dealing with a huge variety of conditions.  He is registered with AXA, Exeter Friendly, HSA, PPP and WPA.

Daniel says "I was brought up in a family of doctors and health care workers so working in this field was a natural step for me.  Biology was the subject I excelled in at school and I have always had an interest in health and well-being.

Having completed a degree in Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire, I decided to change direction and train as an Osteopath.  My interest in the human body and a meeting with a local Osteopath helped me to make the decision. I qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in London in 1999 and returned to my native East Anglia to gain experience.  I found traditional approaches quite limiting and so I developed an interest in Cranial Osteopathy.  I am especially interested in the treatment of babies and children and was impressed with how well they responded to cranial work.  Some of Daniels clients have commented:

"I was particularly interested in the addition to Marlborough House of Daniel Hayward and reading his experience working with hip replacement surgeons at the Devon ad Exeter Hospital.  I have been receiving regular treatment for the past few months and have definitely found that my former problems of sciatic related pain together with lower back and hip pain have substantially eased.  I will certainly continue with regular monthly treatment."         (John - Taunton)
"I came to Daniel for help in reviving my energy levels and general health.  After my first treatment, my chest cleared and I felt a lot more energetic after a few days.  On the second visit, I arrived with my left shoulder tight, and halfway through the session my left hand, arm and shoulder relaxed which I dont normally feel.  The effect is that I can now lift my arm and shoulder and have more movement which is very good."   (Female - Somerset)
"Following an accident, I experienced constant pain in my arm, elbow and shoulder.  I had one session with Mr Marar and Daniel Hayward and woke up the next morning pain-free; for the first time since my fall, fifteen months previously. It seems like magic and these two can help you tap in to the magic within oneself."  (Martin - Taunton)
I spent three years travelling in Australia, New Zealand and France working with some excellent Osteopaths.  I learnt a tremendous amount about both the treatment of children and sports injuries whilst working with injured skiers on the slopes in France.  I then returned to these shores and spent some time doing locum work in Chester and North Wales before deciding to move to the West Country.

I have developed an approach to Osteopathy which is specifically tailored to suit the individual.  By using a range of techniques from direct manipulation to gently unwinding the body using cranial osteopathy, my aim is to return the client to health.  I hope to do some research in the future to help the profession progress."

Jenny Drewitt

Job Title:
  Practice Therapist
Biography:
Jenny has been working in natural medicine since 1992.  Since establishing Marlborough House in 1997 to provide a higher standard of natural health care, Jenny has been developing her own practice to suit peoples changing needs.

Jenny is a qualified Allergy Therapist registered with the Institute of Allergy Therapists. Her approach is to seek solutions to improving peoples health in a practical and cost-effective manner.  Too many people are told they have allergies and yet are not given effective help.

Jenny says "I have had great success helping people with chronic digestive problems with simple dietary advice and the use of natural supplements.  Our aim is to help you become stronger and more tolerant rather than eliminating all the foods you love".

We have many clients who have suffered for years and seen many different practitioners and clinics at great cost.  Our strength at Marlborough House is that we have many methods to help achieve this whether the problem is physical or emotional.

The increase in Allergies and intolerances is an established fact.  Conventional allergy tests such as blood testing and skin prick tests are useful to diagnose a medically defined allergy but dont show intolerances.  Over the years, I have explored several methods of helping adults and children suffering with allergies and intolerances.  The use of Applied Kinesiology (AK) has been researched and proven to be of considerable value if done correctly (please see research links provided).  This method also allows us to identify intolerances due to sensitisation, nutritional deficiencies, enzyme deficiencies or traumatic association.  Click here for more information on Allergy Therapy.

Jenny is also a qualified Flower Essences prescriber - these essences from around the world are used to provide calm, peace of mind and help people to overcome stressful situations.

Mary Bolingbroke

Specialisations:
  Osteopathy
Biography:

Mary Bolingbroke trained at the British School of Osteopathy in London between 1988 and 1992. As a post graduate she continued training and specialised in cranial osteopathic work.

From 1995 Mary worked at the Osteopathic Centre for Children, treating babies and expectant mothers gaining valuable experience in caring for patients with more serious illness and disability. It was during this time that Mary taught at the British School of Osteopathy and set up a multi-disciplinary clinic in Islington. Whilst teaching physiology to the Guild of Homeopaths, she first met Mr. Marar and became interested in the combined use of homeopathy and osteopathy in clinical practice.

In 1999 Mary moved to Devon to work in a hospice providing osteopathic palliative care and also worked for Sure Start looking after pre-school children.

Since 2007 Mary has been working closely with Mr Marar and the Marlborough House team to provide high quality, alternative health care for children, adults and the elderly.

Mr Nabeeh Marar

Job Title:
  Practice Therapist
Specialisations:
  Hypnotherapy, Homoeopathy
Biography:

Mr N. Marar. RSHom. Registered society of Homeopaths – has been in practice in natural health care for over twenty years.

Homeopathy, Hypnotherapy, NLP Coaching, Emotional Freedom Technique.

He has had the good fortune to study and apprentice with some of the best practitioners and in 2006 was quoted in the Evening Standard as one of London’s most trusted health Guru’s.

In 2007, The Telegraph health section stated I was one of the few practitioners worth seeing!  I have always been determined to find what works in the field of natural medicine, exploring many therapies, products and ideas.  ’’Complex is interesting but simple works best’’ is a statement that sums up people’s health needs, taking care of the basics in terms of nutrition, exercise, and having the right mindset to deal with adversity and to remember to enjoy what’s good.  Many people do so, however, many have had trauma and illness too severe or long drawn out to remember what good health and a fulfilling life feels like.

In the treatment of complex cases, I work with Cranial Osteopaths such as Mary Bolingbroke and Daniel Hayward, as a combination of the treatments gives far greater support to the client.  I also work extensively with Nutrition and Allergy Therapy provided by Jenny Drewitt.  Acupuncture is also an important treatment where there has been long term ill health.  One such testimonial supports this :

"Following an accident, I experienced constant pain in my arm, elbow and shoulder.  I had one session with Mr Marar and Daniel Hayward and woke up the next morning pain-free; for the first time since my fall, fifteen months previously. It seems like magic and these two can help you tap in to the magic within oneself."  (Martin - Taunton)

While my clients needs have been diverse, one of my aims is to always ensure that the client gets the right advice and treatment.  We would always recommend our clients work closely with their GP or consultants to ensure that they are receiving the best possible care.

Natural approaches to health care simply work at helping the body and mind restore natural function where there is still the capacity to repair.

I run a 6-week Parenting Skills Course, this is based on the idea that all human behaviour has a social purpose and children learn a combination of useful and unuseful ways of finding/maintaining their place in a group.  The sessions include focusing on how to identify the goals of childrens behaviour by looking at what is happening between the parent & child, including how children use emotions to achieve their goals and learning ways of avoiding being trapped by these negative feelings.  The course includes the idea of good parent versus responsible parent, developing practical skills to deal with different situations, encouragement, communication & listening, problem solving, expressing your ideas & feelings to children and finally developing responsibility using natural and logical sequences.

Bereavement

Sometimes we find ourselves at a standstill on our journey through life.  This can be because we lose a loved one, develop an illness, find the job of life too much to cope with, be it at work or home.  Sometimes this stuckness is to do with the mistaken messages we have absorbed from our experience of growing up, i.e. we are worthless and powerless.  Later in life, we have to undergo massive changes when we lose a loved partner and have to give up a family home, feeling that weve lost everything that gave our life meaning.  Being alone with these feelings often leads to depression, and we become stuck on our journey.  It is at this point that we need to seek the help of someone who knows the way.  Psychotherapy offers a safe place where we can develop a relationship with someone experienced in these difficulties and who can help you understand what has gone wrong and can help you find the inner resources you need to resolve this temporary stuckness and move on again.

Depression/Stress/Couples

I also do individual work with adults at Marlborough House, helping to empower and support people suffering from depression, anxiety, life ‘journey’ issues, people feeling stuck at home, at work (stress management) and in their relationships.  This may involve seeing adults on an individual basis, or it may be more appropriate to see couples together to help them to resolve some of their difficulties.
