How does IPL work for hair removal? The machine has a unique dual phase pulse which is designed to provide efficient destruction of hair follicles. It removes hair by sending out high-energy light pulses. There are actually two beams of light, one yellow and one red, which together affect both the existing hair and the follicles where the hair grows. IPL works best at removing hair when it’s in the active growth phase. But not all the hair in the treatment area will be in this phase at any given time. So we spread our IPL treatments out over a period of time. This is to make sure that hair which isn’t treated in one session is affected in the next. The way hair grows is slightly different for everyone, so we tailor our treatment to suit you.. How many treatments are necessary? Around 6 treatments are needed on average however this does vary from person to person. Facial hair generally will need more sessions.. When will I see the results? After your first session you will notice the hairs start to fall out and grow back with bald patches. After each session the bald patches will gradually get bigger as more hair is damaged whilst it is in the ‘Anagen’ Phase.

Generally these age spots pose no health risk, however they can be unsightly and create a patchy, less youthful appearance. These can be successfully lightened or removed with Intense Pulse Light. How does IPL work for Pigmentation? The Intense Pulse Light System releases short pulses of filtered light which is readily absorbed by the high concentration of melanin found within freckles, sun spots or liver spots. The rapid absorption of light energy heats the melanin and eradicates the melanin-rich cells. How many treatments are necessary? Like you, pigmentation is highly individual and response to treatment does vary from person to person. This can be discussed at a consultation prior to treatment. What does treatment feel like? Treatment is mildly uncomfortable and a warm, tingling sensation not unlike sunburn can be experienced afterwards. Am I suitable for treatment? Most people are suitable for treatment except for very dark skinned or tanned individuals. (Sunbeds, false tan and sunbathing should be avoided during treatment). For some pigmentation, such as melasma, we would not advise using IPL. Any medical conditions will be discussed prior to treatment. When will I see the results? Response to treatment varies for each individual. This can be due to the severity of your pigmentation.
