Bariatric Surgery Consultation

Duodenal Switch (3 hours)

You will find 2 bariatric procedures associated with duodenal switch surgery: Restricted and Malabsorptive. Decreasing the dimensions of the belly is roofed within the restricted element, eliminating some part of the actual stomach with the surgical procedure.

Ileal transpotition (5 hours)

Gastric banding means that a band will be put into your stomach that will restrict its capacity to take in a lot of food. It is a very popular way of losing weight and can be performed laparoscopically which basically means that the surgeon will make small incisions instead of a large one. Gastric band surgery helps to lose weight by restricting the upper part of your stomach so you feel full by eating a lot less, and though you will eat less you´ll lose weight but will not feel hungry. The gastric band can be adjustable so it allows your surgeon to change the tightness of it. It is reversible as well, so when you are done with the dieting, you just have it removed.

Gastric Bypass (2 hours)

Gastric bypass is performed for various reasons like morbid obesity, hypertension, and type II diabetes mellitus. The other medical conditions for which gastric bypass surgery is recommended are coronary heart disease and obstructive sleep apnea. However, this surgical procedure is mainly performed to help in weight loss. This consequently improves health of patients suffering from coronary artery disease and other medical conditions resulting from morbid obesity.

Gastric Sleeve (1 hour)

Gastrectomy sleeve surgery is performed under general anesthesia after taking patient’s written consent, and carried out by making small incisions around the umbilical area. Four to six small incisions are usually made and different surgical instruments are used to carry out this procedure. A laparoscope is inserted through one of the small incisions to view the stomach during surgery. The weight loss surgeon then uses a surgical instrument to make an excision on the stomach to dissect a large portion (around 75%) of the stomach for removal so the patient’s stomach size is reduced to one-fourth of its size. The larger portion of the stomach is removed and this results in a major curve. Open edges are attached to each other using staples. This results in a sleeve with banana shape.
