Rating from 1 Review individualized high quality service and clinical experienceMichelle, UK, 20 Dec 16
I had an appointment with Mr Miles Berry Consultant Aesthetic Surgeon at the Welbeck Hospital in central London 20th December 2016. I saw him following previous cosmetic body surgery elsewhere for a second opinion. I had a terrific experience and he is clearly a highly experienced surgeon.
To provide some background I am 48 years old and have no children. I had a stable BMI all my life until my 40's. At this time I put on a lot of weight over a short period of time when I was unwell. When I recovered I lost this weight by dieting and exercise. However, I had loose skin folds around my abdomen and drooping breasts that made me feel uncomfortable wearing clothes I had worn before I gained weight. This was adversely impacting on my confidence.
After 2 years with a stable weight I sought advice and underwent an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and breast reduction August 2016. This was a painful procedure but I recovered well. Four months post recovery I was not 100% pleased with the outcome and needed further cosmetic surgery to address upper abdominal drooping and residual loose skin folds around my breasts and arms.
I saw the same surgeon again who performed my index surgery who was reluctant to re-operate and suggested I see another Aesthetic surgeon with more experience. He recommended a chain of clinics based in the UK and I arranged an appointment at one of their London Branches.
I am a Doctor and I saw two Aesthetic Surgeons who worked for this well publicised and advertised commercial chain providing plastic surgery in London. I was unhappy with their opinions and as a Doctor myself felt they lacked any real expertise. To me I felt the service was commercially driven and lacked surgeons with real experience. Surgery was portrayed as being straightforward (which it is until it goes wrong).
As a Doctor I have worked across the UK and overseas. Consequently, I am aware that standards in surgical training vary hugely particularly across Europe. I did not feel the previous surgeons whom I saw in the UK before Mr Berry (who were European) had the level of experience I would want before undergoing surgery. My consultation felt like a sales pitch. The surgeons could also not give me their clinical case numbers, outcomes, and complication rates and so I sought another opinion.
I had not shared my experience with my own aesthetic surgical colleagues whom I work with prior to this, being too embarrassed. However, after my bad experience at the commercial chain of cosmetic clinics in London that I had attended I did ask two plastic surgeons I work with who they would recommend. Both of these surgeons and colleagues recommended Mr Miles Berry and for me that was sufficient.
I had a lengthy consultation with Mr Berry 20th December 2016. This did not feel rushed. I saw him at the Welbeck where the staff were lovely. Mr Berry was logical, practical, came across as extremely experienced, conscientious and thorough. He was honest in his opinion and I felt this was a proper patient surgeon consultation with a decision reached as to what was best for me in partnership with me. I was made fully aware of the risks, potential serious and more minor complications of surgery, and his personal experience and success rates. I was really impressed.
They say that Doctors often make bad patients and that is probably true, but we also recognize skilled clinicians when we meet them. I have no hesitation whatsoever based on my experience in recommending Mr Miles Berry to any woman looking for an honest opinion from a very experienced surgeon with and excellent reputation supported by good clinical outcomes.
If I want cosmetics I will go to a Department store, or a commercial chain of shops to buy them. I don't mind the sales pitch in this environment given the worst that can happen is I don't like the product and wont use it again. However, for cosmetic surgery its all right until it goes wrong and it is very important to see a well trained experienced specialist giving proper advice, including telling you when you should not have a particular operation or recommending a different procedure. Its your body and when things go wrong they can go very wrong.
Mr Berry is a very experienced and skilled surgeon who came highly recommended to me by my own colleagues. I would highly recommend him to any other woman looking for expert breast, abdominal, contouring, or liposuction procedures.
In terms of the clinic at the Welbeck Hospital, the atmosphere was very welcoming and the reception and consultation rooms very clean and bright. The administrative and support staff and nurses were professional, knowledgeable, genuinely warm, helpful, and supportive. I did not feel rushed and all of the information provided me was as required and the whole process of booking the appointment, being seen quickly, booking surgery, and sorting out finances went very well. The hospital is in a lovely location in central London. Contrary to what people think having surgery in central London is not really any more costly then going outside London. In addition, at the Welbeck and in relation to Mr Berry's service there are no hidden charges or extras and the cost was very reasonable for such a highly skilled service and surgeon in a central London location.
I would recommend this clinic and centre to anyone looking for an aesthetic or cosmetic surgical procedure in London. Also because it is not a commercial chain of clinics the team is smaller and the quality and 1:1 service much better then anywhere else. If you want a individualized high quality service and clinical experience then visit the Welbeck Clinic it is far better than any of the package priced commercial chains where what you get may not be what you want, need, or what is advertised and sold to you.
