I have had dental work in the US, Honduras, Algadonez Mexico, and now Cancun. This was by far the absolute best experience I have ever had!
Where I live, the emergency root canal and crown I needed would have cost me well over $3000. But I was in severe pain, so I had to have immediate attention. Early Friday morning after my bar shift, I booked a flight to Cancun leaving Saturday. I left messages for several dental practices, Ocean dental being my first choice based on reviews. My plane landed at 3:45 pm Saturday in Cancun. Of few practices that were open on Saturday's, none could schedule me that day. I know one days notice is asking a lot, but I was in severe pain and had to try.
When they found out my situation, both the Doctor and the root canal specialist stayed late ON SATURDAY to see me. They set my appointment for 6 pm to give me time to check into my hotel, where they picked me up from! Even though I stayed on the wrong side of the city because I thought downtown would most likely be closer to whatever dental business I managed to schedule with first. The dentist was able to alleviate my pain right away. Which is a very big deal because I've had no luck with pain medication in the past. This includes serious surgery and narcotic pain relievers they tried 4 kinds of because they just made me sick. In fact, until my first visit to Mexico where they used a local anesthetic, I had always felt everything the dentists did. I know this because in Honduras they had no novocaine so I thought it was going to be horrible based on my usual level of discomfort. But it felt EXACTLY the same as always. That's when I realized it didn't work at all, and poking me 20 times with the novocaine needle was just mean.Anyway, she gave me the pain killer (non-narcotic) and it worked within ten minutes. If it hadn't, the root canal specialist was going to do the procedure that night. Instead, we scheduled it for the next morning (Sunday morning when EVERY dental practice is closed), and only because I was absolutely certain I was OK.
It just gets better from there. They took x-rays a dozen times during the root canal. I researched why, and apparently some common issues are not getting every single nerve and root piece, and getting a tiny air bubble when filling the root cavities. It seems people usually find out about this on a subsequent visit with new x-rays, when they experience pain and have to return. Well Ocean dental is not going to have that problem. They have a state of the art x-ray system that allows the assistant to take quick shots during the procedure so it's perfect. I was amazed. They made a beautiful crown (whiteness of MY choice) and placed it perfectly. It's been nearly two months and I am thrilled with their work.
Even if I had dental coverage in the US, I would still prefer to visit Ocean Dental. They listen to you and go way above and beyond good customer service. Since I don't have dental coverage, I will never go anywhere else again! For less than what it would have cost in the US, I booked a last minute, all-inclusive, 7 day vacation, and received dental care far superior to anything I have experienced before.
