What is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth shaped covering used as a cap over damaged teeth. The purpose of placing a crown is to improve the appearance and strength of the damaged tooth. Crowns are also placed over surgically inserted dental implants.

What are the different types of Dental Crowns?

The types of dental crowns include ceramic crowns, zirconia crowns, porcelain covered corrosion resistant metal crowns or porcelain fused to metal crowns, corrosion resistant metal crowns and gold crowns.

What is the best type of crown?

The best type of crown depends on the need of each individual patient and the position of the tooth. For instance, some people would find a gold crown placed on a front tooth unsightly. Ceramic, tooth coloured crowns placed on the front teeth maintain the natural appearence of the smile.

How long will a Dental Crown last?

Crowns are expected to last for about 5 years. Some crowns could last for up to 30 years. The life of a crown depends on the dental hygiene practiced by the patient and general wear and tear caused by biting, chewing or grinding. Crowns may crack if the patient has an accident.

Is it painful to get a Dental Crown?

Dentists inject local anaesthetic to numb the tooth and gum before placing the crown. The patient will not feel any pain while the crown is being placed. After the anaesthetic wears off the patient may feel mild pain or sensitivity for a few hours.

He answered all the questions I had and also spotted an infection I wasn't aware ofGratiela, UK, 26 06 23

CT scan. It wasn't cheap but it was less than I expected for a CT scan. It cost £240 or around that sum but it provided a scan/picture of the whole set of teeth. The receptionist was professional, punctual and clear. The dentist who dealt with me was very nice and calm, and he explained everything at every step. He advised me very clearly on what my choices are, and if I get implants somewhere else, what details and model/number/size of the material to look for in case I develop problems later and need help. He answered all the questions I had and also spotted an infection I wasn't aware of. I would go back there because I felt he was knowledgeable but also understanding. Another great plus is having parking right in front of the clinic.

They held out their hand and helped meMargaret, UK, 03 09 22

I attended meavy way. The young receptionist helped with form as I find things difficult with arthritis and RA. I was soon called into surgery and was greeted by a very nice dentist. He checked my problem ,explained what was to be done and cost. He immediately did the filling As I am a pensioner I am to arrange a checkup and plan to deal with whatever problems that need doing as and when I can afford to have them done. I thought that this would be good for me as I certainly cannot afford huge bills especially with the way our country is going just now. I must say that meavy way has been a wonderful help to me when I was quite desperate and seeing no way forward. They held out their hand and helped me. Many thanks to them

Felt comfortable in the practice from the outsetMaria, UK, 04 08 23

Fabulous first visit at Crownhill Dental Practice today. Welcomed at reception by Rachel and Mia who were lovely and welcoming.. felt comfortable in the practice from the outset. The therapists Carly and Evie put me at ease straight away in the treatment room with their friendliness and their wealth of knowledge.. really informative. Dr Ordi was kind enough to see me today too, unscheduled, he certainly knows his stuff and he too was kind, friendly and made me feel very comfortable. I can already tell that I've definitely made the right choice in choosing this practice for my future treatment...I've never enjoyed a visit to the dentist visit so much!
