About The Dental Suite

The Dental Suite is a new family dental practice in Bray. We aim to create a friendly and warm atmostphere where the staff are approachable and kind. We provide a wide range of services at competitive costs. These services include general dental care, denture fabrication and repair and sedation services. Our on-site laboratory ensures a fast turn around for patients with broken dentures.

Our team is trained in treating children and special needs patients. We have a special interest in the treament of those who are particularly anxious and we have established a sedation unit at The Dental Suite. We hope to help nervous patients overcome the barriers to dental care via the valuable adjuncts of oral, inhalation (“happy air”) sedation and intravenous techniques. All of these are forms of conscious sedation and the patient is not ‘put to sleep’.

Oral Sedation
This form of sedation, while not routinely used, can be of benefit in the case of extremely nervous and needle phobic patients. It is of use in special needs patients where cooperation for the placement of a cannula is not possible to obtain without some sedation.

As it relies on absorption from your gut it is less predictable than the other two types of sedation.

Inhalation Sedation
Also known as Relative Analgesia (RA) or ‘happy air/gas’. This form of conscious sedation is suitable for many mildly anxious, cooperative patients. It is a gas that is breathed in through the nose allowing the patient to feel more comfortable and relaxed.

It is very safe and looses its effect once the patient ceases to breathe the gas. It is suitable for most children and adults alike.

Intravenous Sedation
This form of sedatin is also very safe and used instead of a general anaesthetic in many cases in modern dentistry. It involves the placement of a cannula (like giving blood) in the back of you hand or the inside of your elbow.

The sedation takes its effect almost immediately and the patient will feel relaxed and sleepy. It is suitable for very anxious patients and is not used in children in primary care settings. The patient will feel the effects fo the sedation for the rest of that day.

Pre-medication
Some anxious patients may be sufficiently comfortable to proceed with treatment by taking a sedative tablet prior to their visit. This may be prescribed for use on its own or along with sedation in the surgery (using RA, IV or Oral Sedation).
