Fuller looking lips and reduced fine line wrinkles around the mouth

Lip augmentation creates fuller looking lips by the injection of filler materials. The most common material used is liquid collagen, but there are also newer matierials such as AlloDerm and SoftForm that are supposed to last longer. There are many more brand name treatments available too. Fat from your own body can also be used in certain cases.

Laser treatment is also an option. This treats the natural collagen in your lips along with the elastic tissue, tightening them for a rejuvenating effect.

Length

Depening on the type of treatment required, the time needed can range from just minutes up to 2 hours.

Procedure

The procedures involved are varied. Some involved just the injection of filler materials without any sedation. Others require surgical incisions to place implant materials. Some will also involve the removal of small amounts of fat from other parts of your body for use as filler. Laser treatment involves no injections or surgery.

Recovery

Recovery can be anywhere from near instant to up to a week of rest.

Risks

There are risks involved with all treatments. Allergic reactions to the fillers used can be serious and should be tested for before proceding with treatment. Implants and filler can be positioned badly or shift leading to mis-shaped or asymmetrical lips. Collagen injections tend to last for just 3 months, and some others are not permanent either. Implants can also be rejected in some cases.

Lip Augmentation: Lip augmentation gives you fuller lips. It can be done to one or both lips. Most patients prefer to do both lips. Lip Augmentation is very popular because it produces immediate results, which can be subtle or dramatic, according to the needs of the patient. The lips can also be made fuller with lip augmentation by injecting dermal fillers into the lips at the same surgical session. The overall effect of the lip lift is a more esthetically pleasing mouth with a youthful appearance. The patient satisfaction rate is very high. Anybody who wants fuller lips is a candidate for this procedure. If a patient has a long upper lip, she might want to consider a lip lift (in conjunction with the lip augmentation) for an overall rejuvenation of the lip. The upper lip lift is a procedure that elevates the position of the upper lip with respect to the teeth giving a broader smile. The amount of pink lip that is seen is also increased giving the patient wider lips. As we age all the bones of the body (including the face) retract and diminish allowing the flesh of the face to hang more. The soft tissue and fat of the face undergo atrophy so the skin itself also falls. The aged upper lip is characterized by a thin or non-existent vermilion (the pink part) and a smile that does not show the teeth.
