BDS (Hons) BSc (Physiology) MJDF RCS (Eng) Associate Parkside Dental Practice GDC 103510 After studying physiology at Cardiff University and gaining his BSc, Matthew continued at the university as a dental student. Qualifying with a BDS (Hons) in 2006 he took positions in general practice, worked as a senior house officer in a Maxillofacial surgery and spent six months as a Community Dental Officer. With a keen interest in day-to-day dental care, Matthew in recent years worked in mixed general practice in Newport, Shropshire. In 2011 he completed the Diploma of Membership of the Joint Dental Faculties of the Royal College of Surgeons of England – MJDF RCS (Eng). A relatively new face at our Parkside surgery, he looks after one of the largest patient books in the practice and continues to fit seamlessly into the Jon Pugh Dental ethos.

BDs MSc PG Cert Periodontology GDC71768 Carl Horton heads the team at Parkside as principal. With a vision to redefine the dental ‘experience’ he views his team’s wide-ranging clinical skills as the ultimate fusion of enlightened science and creative art. Enjoying a global stage for treatment models and pioneering research, he has taken international platforms at San Francisco, Gothenburg and Athens. With special interests in implant dentistry and periodontics, shares his time between Parkside and Total Implant Solutions, both under the Jon Pugh dental marque. A graduate of Birmingham University, he qualified with a Clinical Distinction in 1996. He has since been awarded an MSc in periodontology. Carl has worked as a General Practice associate, a part-time senior house officer in a hospital and as a clinical lecturer at Birmingham Dental School. He became a practice principal in 2003 and while continuing to teach undergraduates, also took the role of Foundation Dental Trainer for three successive years. His extensive teaching experience allows him to undertake some of the most complex of dental problems. BDS MFGDP(UK) DipPCOrth RCS(Eng) GDC63893 Liz graduated from Dundee University in 1988. As well as 24 years of wide-ranging general practice dentistry, she also has 10 years of orthodontic experience in both hospital and practice environments. Liz achieved membership from the Faculty of General Dental Practice in 1999 and began developing a special interest in orthodontics in 2002. She joined the dedicated orthodontic team at Parkside in 2005, providing orthodontic treatment for children and adults under NHS contract referrals and for those in the practice’s private patient scheme. Liz gained a certificate in The Principles of Orthodontics from Warwick University in 2007 and more recently the Diploma in Primary Care Orthodontics awarded jointly by the British Orthodontic Society and the Faculty of General Dental Practice. A campaigner for educating patients in orthodontic treatment, she is always happy to devote time to discuss any aspect of orthodontic discipline so that best clinical outcomes can be achieved. Liz, who had fixed braces herself in her 40s, is excited that more adults are now seeking an orthodontic solution to improve their smiles. As part of her dental experience, Liz has worked in India, Romania, Peru and Tanzania.
