29 and finally got the courage to have breast augmentation surgeryJennifer, UK, 20 Jul 15
When I was in my teens I had great boobs, full and a great size for my petite frame. As I entered my 20s I found that they changed size depending on the pill I took. Around 27 I stated doing a lot of weights at the gym and lost a lot of body fat. Of course, my already small boobs were the first thing to go. I could sculpt every part of my body through hard work in the gym, but not boobs. I felt like a boy when I looked in the mirror and it upset me every time I saw myself.
Before my op I spoke to two friends that had had the same surgery. They had two very different experiences. When I look at it the reasons were so clear. The first, who said "this won't change your life" had the operation in large part due to other people's views of her. She didn't have a positive experience despite using a good surgeon. The second friend, who had a positive experience, said "its easy, sure its uncomfortable, but I've been through worse". This friend had never had boobs and had the op purely for her own reasons. So, I would say, if you are considering this for anyone other than yourself, just stop and think because your experience is unlikely to be as positive.
If you want this surgery for the right reasons, you wont mind feeling like you have an elephant sat in your chest for a few days, feeling sore for a few weeks and then waiting for the months it takes to fully heal. It's not easy. I had complications due to my nerves stretching over the implant causing more pain than normal for months after the op, but it was worth every second and every penny. I picked a great surgeon that was there supporting me every step of the way, which made the world of difference.
So if there are two things I would say from my experience its this:
1. If you decide to have surgery, make sure it is for no one other than you
2. Pick a surgeon and clinic that you trust and take your time choosing - if things go wrong/not to plan/you have complications, will they support you in the way you expect and need.
If you decide to do this, I hope you enjoy the experience and results as much as I do. All the best. I chose Lisa and this clinic due to the reviews on here, I was so impressed by the quality of service pre and post op that her clients experienced. The service and clinic exceeded all my expectations, which were already high. Lisa is an incredible woman; kind but firm and honest when she needs to be, and of course, incredibly talented. She always had my best interests at heart and worked with me to achieve the result I wanted. Lisa spent a lot of time talking to me before my op, about things that seemed curiously irrelevant to me at the time, but of course it was all for a reason - she wanted to get to know me, my mind, learn about the people that supported me, to check this was the right decision for me now, and that I thoroughy understood the longer term considerations. A true professional.
Lisa was the one that got the purple pen out the morning before my op, the one that was there when I came round, and the one that took my drains out the morning after and checked I had ordered the right breakfast with plenty of protein to help me heal, the one that contacted me to check in after I went home and the one to answer my silly questions at night when I worried about things. Lisa takes the service she provides very seriously, and what a wonderful job she does.
Lisa operates out of the Nuffield hospital in Bristol. I booked a consultation as soon as I knew I wanted Lisa to be my surgeon, I wanted to get to know her better and she did not disappoint. The hospital itself is spotlessly clean and the staff are warm and attentive. I felt like I was in a hotel, not a hospital. The food was good and plentiful.
Liana, Lisa's assistant is a complete star; professional and friendly and very efficient. She dealt with queries/prescription help/appointments and listened to me rant about how excited I was, put up with me crying weeks and months after my treatment when I got all emotional about how it was the best thing I have ever done.
I am sure you could find a cheaper clinic, but my view is, when it's your body, why risk it? I can honestly say I enjoyed the whole procedure from start to finish. Thank you to Lisa, Liana and all the wonderful staff at Nuffield for making this so easy and supporting me through one of the biggest things I have ever done. You are all stars.
