Deep Tissue Massage
targets the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The massage therapist uses slower strokes or friction techniques across the grain of the muscle. Deep tissue massage is used for chronically tight or painful muscles, repetitive strain, postural problems, or recovery from injury. People often feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage.
Rather than a , it is especially helpful for problem areas which affect many people. These include back, neck and shoulder problems. Usually within these areas of pain, brought on by muscle tension or injury, lie bands or adhesions of painful rigid tissue in tendons, ligaments and muscles. These adhesions can actually block the circulation of blood flow resulting in inflammation and limited movement.
The deep tissue massage process actually helps to break down these adhesions to relieve pain and eventually restore the muscle to normal movement. There will be some pain and discomfort during points of the massage but this is quite normal and aids in the healing process.
