About Antonia Colom MIACP Counselling & Psychotherapy
Antonia Colom, BA (Hons), MSt, MIACP, MIAHIP is an experienced psychotherapist and relationship therapist. She holds a
Masters from the University of Oxford in the use of Mindfulness to treat mental health problems, BA (Hons) in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy, and also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Art Therapy, and a Professional Certificate in CBT, as well as other shorter qualifications. Antonia's practice is evidence-based and she uses psychological questionnaires that measure distress at the beginning, throughout, and at the end of therapy to monitor whether therapy is working or not. Antonia believes that compassion, warmth, acceptance, honesty, constant encouragement and a deep knowledge of theory is what works best in therapy. Her approach is varied, and she integrates the latest research on the neuroscience of depression and anxiety into her work, using approaches that are evidence-based, such as CBT and MBCT. She works part-time in private practice, and the location is discreet, peaceful and comfortable. There is free parking outside. There is now also an experienced male therapist working in the practice, Dr. Damien Cassells. You can meet meet either Antonia or Damien for a free initial consultation.
The initial face-to-face consultation and assessment is an hour long and completely free of charge. After this meeting, you can decide whether you want to commence therapy or not, and we can also figure out whether we can help you or not. We put no pressure on you to commit to therapy once you are in the practice for the initial meeting. It is also a way to assess you formally by going through your history, therapeutic goals, and by using distress-measuring questionnaires. If you decide to commence therapy, the questionnaire is completed throughout therapy so we can see on paper whether the sessions are having a positive effect of not. This helps us make sure we are offering a good service.
Antonia also has experience as a lecturer in the the BA (Hons) and Professional Diploma programmes in a Couselling and Psychotherapy training institute in Ireland. She is also a mindfulness teacher.
