Anger Management

Anger is a part of being human.  It’s perfectly healthy and normal to feel angry when you’ve been mistreated or wronged.  It is not possible to ‘get rid’of anger, as some people who come to counselling wish, because it is a natural feeling that is essential to our survival.  It is, however, possible to learn to manage angry feelings and behaviours.

Sometimes people explode and act out their angry feelings, whilst others hold their anger in and deny that it exists.  The feeling isnt the problem—its what you do with it that makes a difference.  Anger becomes a problem when it harms you or others.  If anger isn’t managed and expressed safely, it can lead to all sorts of problems e.g. domestic violence, anger on the road,self-harm, depression, destructive relationships, chronic health issues.

Learning to manage angry feelings takes work, but the more you practice, the easier it will get.   In counselling for anger management, we explore how you express your anger, or don’t, and the impact this has in your life.  If you have a hot temper, you may feel like it’s out of your hands and there’s little you can do to tame the beast but you have more control over your anger than you think.  Counselling can enable you to:

  • Identify your patterns of behaviour around feeling angry
  • Manage your angry feelings, from small irritations to fully-fledged anger
  • Make safe choices about how you express angry feelings
  • Learn how to make a complaint to someone else
  • Set clear and consistent boundaries
  • Learn how to say ‘No’ and mean it
  • Explore ways to express anger physically

Learning to control your anger and express it appropriately will help you build better relationships, achieve your goals, and lead a healthier, more satisfying life.

Counselling

Counselling - In Dublin Counselling

Most of us, at some time in our lives, have periods when it is very hard to cope. This can be very distressing, health and happiness may suffer and other aspects of our lives may be affected.  Often we can overcome life’s difficulties on our own or with the help and support of friends and family.  Sometimes, however, we can feel overwhelmed by difficult feelings that won’t go away, or get stuck in patterns of thinking and behaviour which we can’t seem to change. Friends, no matter how supportive, don’t know how to help, or maybe we just don’t want to burden them with our problems.

If you are finding life difficult, with issues getting on top of you or perhaps you feel overwhelmed by problems you are not alone, as these are very challenging times. It may feel as if you have lost control of your life, but there are ways to regain a sense of control in your life.

Counselling can provide you with a safe, confidential, non-judgmental space in which you can come to understand yourself and your feelings more fully, and in which new perspectives and new possibilities for change can emerge.

My role as a counsellor is to facilitate self-exploration, change and growth. You won’t ever be told what to do or be pressurised into making changes you don’t want to make.  I provide you with a warm, respectful, accepting environment which is based on support and confidentiality.  This creates a trustworthy atmosphere where you can feel secure enough to work on any difficulties.

The service I offer is professional, understanding and caring. I will treat you with sensitivity and respect and provide a confidential environment where you can talk about your thoughts and feelings.

I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow and change.  This means that as a therapist I will offer you acceptance, empathy, warmth and understanding and a place where you will not be judged.

Psychotherapist Consultation

People usually seek out a counsellor or psychotherapist when they feel stuck or overwhelmed by a particular issue or difficulty. You may have already sought the help of others, such as family, friends or your doctor, but sometimes it can be very helpful to be listened to by someone neutral and where the focus is on you and your experiences.

As a trained, experienced counsellor, I provide you with a safe, confidential,non-judgmental space in which you can come to understand yourself and your feelings more fully, and in which new perspectives and new possibilities for change can emerge.

My role is to support you and facilitate self-exploration, change and growth. You won’t ever be told what to do or be pressurised into making changes you don’t want to make.  I provide you with a warm, respectful, accepting environment which is based on support and confidentiality.  This creates a trustworthy atmosphere where you can feel secure enough to work on any difficulties.

If you have any questions or would like to arrange a consultation you can contact me in confidence either by telephone or by email:

I offer an introductory consultation, with no further obligation, to provide the opportunity for you to explain what has brought you to counselling, to see whether you feel comfortable working with me and to assess whether we both think counselling will be helpful.

  • Finding someone that youre comfortable talking to is as individual as you are.  We dont always hit it off with everyone we meet and developing relationships can take time, allowing trust and respect to grow.
  • The same is true of counselling.  Every counsellor is an individual and will work with their own style.  Our first meeting will be one where we can explore this.  It allows both parties to decide if they are able to work together successfully.  By making an appointment you remain in control.  It simply gives you a place to begin asking questions that may have been difficult in the past.

We provide professional, affordable one-to-one counselling and are situated in St Martins Park, Dublin 6.
