Area Mentis Psychotherapy - Logo

Area Mentis Psychotherapy

1A Swanville Place, Rathmines, Dublin, d6
The Area Mentis Centre provides psychotherapy, psychoanalysis and psychological services for any individual experiencing mental pain. Our practitioners have dedicated their lives to the study of how people think, act and communicate.Talking is the cornerstone of the treatment the purpose of which is to learn about oneself. Through this process, practitioners help people to identify the source of their problems and address them. Each individual's treatment is characterised by an intensely personalised approach, greatly increasing the probability of change This treatment effects change through regular weekly sessions, in which the relationship between practitioner and client supports a therapeutic discourse. During treatment, the client develops insight and self-awareness, integrating those past events that may have been traumatic or unsayable into a coherent narrative. Supported by the relationship to the therapist/analyst, the individual can scrutinize the stress and suffering in their lives within the context of their life-history: where it originates, how it is manifested and what coping behaviours have evolved to deal with it.

We believe that everyone has the potential for growth and change if given a supportive, non-judgmental environment and time to explore their difficulties at their own pace. Our clients are given the unique opportunity to enhance their therapy with the help of an online technology with a range of resources to track their mood or anxiety, log and evaluate their thinking in particular situations, and observe associated emotions – all conveniently on their smartphone or tablet, without paperwork, and tailored to each individual client. We offer a range of therapeutic approaches for clients dealing with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, low self-esteem and self-harming/suicidal behaviours.
Counselling for Anxiety & Depression up to €70
We draw upon the principles of CBT to address both the physical and psychological symptoms of anxiety and depression, while providing the client with a safe, warm atmosphere to explore their issues at their own pace.
Psychotherapist Consultation up to €70
In the initial consultation therapist and client can establish whether they can do therapeutic work together. For the therapist, this involves assessing what type of therapeutic support the client needs and whether this is within the therapists realm of services offered. For the client, it involves whether they feel comfortable and safe enough within this particular therapeutic environment to bring whatever they need to the sessions.
CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy up to €70
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the important role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like people, situations, and events. The benefit of this fact is that we can change the way we think to feel better even if the situation does not change.

This clinic is very patient-focused doesn't just fire medication at you. I actually don't think I have ever spoken to a nicer Dr Mo really really listened to me. Thank you to Dr Mo and all at the Ellwood clinic. My situation and health are complex but no stone was left you turned. As a therapist I am guided by the needs and requirements of the person seeking help. I believe that the strength of therapy lies not in technique alone, but in the connection made between the person seeking help and the therapist who is capable of offering it. My counselling background includes working with those who have experienced trauma, and those suffering from anxiety or feelings of low mood.  I have also worked with adolescents as a Schools Counsellor, and am currently working with Pieta House supporting people who are in suicidal distress or engaging in self harm. My approach to counselling and therapy is Person Centred, respecting and encouraging the clients’ autonomy within the therapeutic process at all times. I will provide a confidential one to one relationship in a safe setting to develop the client’s self-awareness, assisting them in finding their own way through their difficulties. I welcome those seeking help, working with teenagers, adults, couples and families. I have experience with a broad range of personal concerns including; depression, suicidal thoughts and self harm, anxiety and panic attacks, stress, relationship difficulties, sexual, physical and emotional abuse and personal development. My qualifications include: BA (Hons);  Dip Counselling/Psychotherapy;  Higher Dip in Conflict Resolution and Mediation;  Cert. Family Therapy, Cert CBT. I look forward to welcoming new clients to my established practice

Drumcondra and Glasnevin Counselling Services - Psychotherapy Clinic in Ireland

Drumcondra and Glasnevin Counselling Services

Dublin North, Dublin Southside, Dublin
How Therapy Can HelpOur emotions dictate and determine how we see the world. When you have control over your emotions you have control over your behaviour. When we become anxious, distressed, depressed or living in fear, the rational part of our brain is suppressed and the emotional brain takes over. We become time travellers trapped in the past ruminating, worrying, restless and agitated, driving us to despair with guilt, shame, secrets and unresolved business.  Glimpses of the future may be glimpses of catastrophe, hopelessness and emptiness.  As your counsellor I am here to listen to you, to guide you and to bring to your awareness alternative ways of being in the world. Collaborative counselling can bring insight and access to your imagination and your own forgotten inner strengths. You can change your life trajectory. You can find your personal path and spread it with peace, well-being, balance and spiritual wholeness.
CBT and Depression €80 - €120
When we become anxious, depressed or living in fear, the rational part of our brain is suppressed and the emotional brain takes over. We become time travellers trapped in the past.   Time-travellers living in the past in a ruminating room. Worrying, restless and agitated, driving ourselves to dispair with guilt, shame, secrets and unresolved business.  Glimpses of the future can become images of catastrophe, hopelessness and emptiness.  When I think of the ‘Ruminating Room’ I put bars and chains on its door and visualize an adjoining room I call the ‘Reflection Room’. It is a safe place. A sanctuary. My private internal space where I can explore that which is bothering me. Here in this place I ask not who is, or was, to blame for my emotional distress. No, I ask only, what can I learn from these experiences. I become aware that I cannot change the past. Nor should I forget the past. I remind myself that – when I live in the past I forfeit the present –when I forget the past I risk similar fate in the future. So, I look to the future and ask ‘Where do I want to be in six months time?  . Now I bring myself into the present and ask myself ‘what do I have to do, here and now, to achieve my goal. To be myself. This is time-travel of the best kind. This is a spiritual journey with invited passengers only. This is Mindfulness.

What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT?)     Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is brief and time-limited. During the sessions you will learn how to become your own therapist. You will be given the tools to help you become your own person. To take charge of your life. To understand why you, and only you, have brought yourself to this place at this point in time. To accept that everyone is responsible for their own behaviour. To challenge your thoughts and beliefs and see how they shape your views and ultimately your experiences of the world as you perceive it to be. To quote Epictetus, "Men are not moved by things, but by the views which they take of them." In CBT I like to switch the phrase “I’ll believe it when I see it” to “I’ll see it when I believe it”.  This shift in perception raises our awareness. It is only when we have elevated a problem into our awareness and begin to see it in a different light that we can do something about it. We begin to realise and accept that we have choices. We can do something about the problem or do nothing. The choice is ours to take. The decision is ours to make. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy has proven worldwide to be effective in the treatment of many psychological disorders.
