Crossroad Counselling - Andrea Koenigstorfer, BA, MSc, MIACP, MBACP

Crossroad Counselling

46 Mount Joy Square South, Dublin, Dublin 1
Situated in Dublin City Centre, Crossroad Counselling & Psychotherapy offers both short-term and long-term confidential counselling and psychotherapy. Working from a humanistic background, we believe each client is unique and therefore draw upon a range of therapeutic approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused or Psychodynamic Therapy. We believe that everyone has the potential for growth and change if given a supportive, non-judgmental environment and time to explore their difficulties at their own pace. Our clients are given the unique opportunity to enhance their therapy with the help of an online technology with a range of resources to track their mood or anxiety, log and evaluate their thinking in particular situations, and observe associated emotions – all conveniently on their smartphone or tablet, without paperwork, and tailored to each individual client. We offer a range of therapeutic approaches for clients dealing with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, addiction, eating disorders, low self-esteem and self-harming/suicidal behaviours.
Counselling for Anxiety & Depression up to €70
We draw upon the principles of CBT to address both the physical and psychological symptoms of anxiety and depression, while providing the client with a safe, warm atmosphere to explore their issues at their own pace.
Psychotherapist Consultation up to €70
In the initial consultation therapist and client can establish whether they can do therapeutic work together. For the therapist, this involves assessing what type of therapeutic support the client needs and whether this is within the therapists realm of services offered. For the client, it involves whether they feel comfortable and safe enough within this particular therapeutic environment to bring whatever they need to the sessions.
CBT - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy up to €70
Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes the important role of thinking in how we feel and what we do. It is based on the idea that our thoughts cause our feelings and behaviors, not external things, like people, situations, and events. The benefit of this fact is that we can change the way we think to feel better even if the situation does not change.

Drumcondra and Glasnevin Counselling Services - Psychotherapy Clinic in Ireland

Drumcondra and Glasnevin Counselling Services

Dublin North, Dublin Southside, Dublin
How Therapy Can HelpOur emotions dictate and determine how we see the world. When you have control over your emotions you have control over your behaviour. When we become anxious, distressed, depressed or living in fear, the rational part of our brain is suppressed and the emotional brain takes over. We become time travellers trapped in the past ruminating, worrying, restless and agitated, driving us to despair with guilt, shame, secrets and unresolved business.  Glimpses of the future may be glimpses of catastrophe, hopelessness and emptiness.  As your counsellor I am here to listen to you, to guide you and to bring to your awareness alternative ways of being in the world. Collaborative counselling can bring insight and access to your imagination and your own forgotten inner strengths. You can change your life trajectory. You can find your personal path and spread it with peace, well-being, balance and spiritual wholeness.
CBT and Depression €80 - €120
When we become anxious, depressed or living in fear, the rational part of our brain is suppressed and the emotional brain takes over. We become time travellers trapped in the past.   Time-travellers living in the past in a ruminating room. Worrying, restless and agitated, driving ourselves to dispair with guilt, shame, secrets and unresolved business.  Glimpses of the future can become images of catastrophe, hopelessness and emptiness.  When I think of the ‘Ruminating Room’ I put bars and chains on its door and visualize an adjoining room I call the ‘Reflection Room’. It is a safe place. A sanctuary. My private internal space where I can explore that which is bothering me. Here in this place I ask not who is, or was, to blame for my emotional distress. No, I ask only, what can I learn from these experiences. I become aware that I cannot change the past. Nor should I forget the past. I remind myself that – when I live in the past I forfeit the present –when I forget the past I risk similar fate in the future. So, I look to the future and ask ‘Where do I want to be in six months time?  . Now I bring myself into the present and ask myself ‘what do I have to do, here and now, to achieve my goal. To be myself. This is time-travel of the best kind. This is a spiritual journey with invited passengers only. This is Mindfulness.

What is Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT?)     Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is brief and time-limited. During the sessions you will learn how to become your own therapist. You will be given the tools to help you become your own person. To take charge of your life. To understand why you, and only you, have brought yourself to this place at this point in time. To accept that everyone is responsible for their own behaviour. To challenge your thoughts and beliefs and see how they shape your views and ultimately your experiences of the world as you perceive it to be. To quote Epictetus, "Men are not moved by things, but by the views which they take of them." In CBT I like to switch the phrase “I’ll believe it when I see it” to “I’ll see it when I believe it”.  This shift in perception raises our awareness. It is only when we have elevated a problem into our awareness and begin to see it in a different light that we can do something about it. We begin to realise and accept that we have choices. We can do something about the problem or do nothing. The choice is ours to take. The decision is ours to make. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy has proven worldwide to be effective in the treatment of many psychological disorders.

It’s a big decision to come to counselling or psychotherapy . For some it is something they have beenconsidering for some time, while for others it’s an immediate decision inresponse to something that has come up suddenly in their life. Either way it canbe a stressful and anxious time. Knowing what to expect can make it alittle easier. Our first meeting will be an exploratory session. Thiswill allow you  to see what counselling is about and decide if it will bebeneficial for you to continue.  I will take some personal details anddiscuss confidentiality in the counselling relationship. We will move on tolook at your life and examine what has brought you to counselling at thistime.  We will also look at what you want to achieve from therapy. At the end of this session it is your decision whetherto proceed further. If  you decide yes  I would normally contract for 4 - 6 sessions after which we would review where we are. If I think your needs will be best met elsewhere Iwill offer a referral.  Therapy may involve either short term counselling orlonger term psychotherapy. This decision rests with you and what you want toachieve from the counselling process.  While I am qualified in the use of psychodynamic, humanistic and cognitive behavioral approaches I mainly work humanistically, using elements of the other models where appropriate.
