Philippa Ba (hons) is a fully registered and accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist working in Athenry. She considers that people come to counselling because there is something about their life that they want to change, this could be for many reasons ….. to improve a relationship, to become more assertive, to stop feeling stressed all the time, to name but a few. However sometimes clients just come to talk about something that is bothering them and the counsellor gives them time and space in a confidential and safe environment without any judgement, these may include issues such as a loss, a life transition, a traumatic event. No issue is too large or too small, counselling is about what matters to the individual client. Philippa works in a person centred way, focusing on each client as an individual with unique counselling needs. Philippa is also qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Complicated Grief Therapy. The cost is €80 for an hour session.

In my previous work as a solicitor I had over twenty years experience working with vulnerable clients and specialised in the areas of family law, equality law, childcare law and refugee law.   As a family lawyer I represented clients in stressful situations encompassing divorce, separation, custody, maintenance and domestic violence. In the area of equality I did a significant amount of work with gay, lesbian and transgender clients, clients with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities both in relation to employment and services. In the equality and refugee areas I worked with people from many different cultural backgrounds. My experience working with clients in these areas gave me a very important understanding and basis for my psychotherapy practice.  I provide both short term counselling and longer term psychotherapy on a one
