Dr Joanne Butt

Biography:

Joanne completed her Masters degree and Doctorate in Sport Psychology at Miami University, Ohio in the USA.

Joanne has published and presented research within various sport psychology and performance excellence topics including mental toughness, stress and competitive anxiety, goal-setting, and imagery.
Joanne has previously consulted with NCAA and youth athletes in the USA, and currently consults with athletes from various team and individual sports such as football and tennis.

Joanne has conducted research for the 2012 Research Unit in the area of talent development and delivers performing under pressure and mental toughness workshops in the corporate setting.

Joanne teaches both undergraduate and postgraduate sport psychology related modules, and currently supervises PhD research students in the areas of competitive stress, talent development and psychological skills training in youth sport.

Professional memberships: Chartered Sport Psychologist with the British Psychological Society (BPS), accredited with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Science (BASES)

Dr Rob Copeland BSc (Hons) MMedSci PhD

Biography:

Dr Rob Copeland is a senior sport and exercise science officer with over 10 years experience of working within research, consultancy and practice.

Robs specific area of expertise is sport and exercise psychology, with his current research and consultancy portfolio focusing on designing physical activity and behaviour change interventions that tackle obesity, designing and implementing sport psychology programmes for business and developing corporate wellness initiatives.

Rob has also worked within a wide range of sports including professional golf, cycling and snooker. Rob also runs programs for senior executives to help build mental toughness and perform under pressure and leads the centres corporate athlete programme.

Professional memberships: Rob is an accredited sport and exercise psychologist for research and athlete support with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES).

Ms Alison Macfarlane

Biography:

Alison is a sports physiotherapist in the Podium Performance team. Alison qualified as a physiotherapist many years ago in Glasgow and has a diploma in Academic and Practical Physiotherapy for Sport from the London Hospital. She has been working in sport since 1984 and was involved in the organisation of the physiotherapy service for the World Student Games in Sheffield in 1990.

Alison has worked with many national governing bodies including United Kingdom Atheltics (UKA), the English Volleyball Association (EVA), British Volleyball Federation (BVF), swimming and diving. She has worked with elite sports people across a wide range of sports including track and field, volleyball, ice hockey, cycling, basketball, diving, competition climbing, and ice dance and is currently a consultant to the British Mountaineering Council competition climbing squads.

Alison specialises in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and has a particular interest and specialisation in Injury reduction/performance, functional movement and rehabilitation. As part of the Podium Performance team Alison works closely with strength and conditioning coaches, biomechanists and sports coaches.
